I have one for my 1430. It works ok, although the lack of shields will throw debris 50 feet in everydirection. We use it more to shear and prune roots rather than actual stump grinding. I would recommend a dedicated stump grinder if you are planning on using it a lot.

II use the stump cutter with a 1445. It produces a cut about 1 and 1/4 inches wide. To remove a stump you have to move the PT constantly to grind it down. You can minimize some the debis by keeping the quick attach plate vertical. As Yardscaper said the stump cutter works well to cut roots in ground that you want to remove with a bucket. Just make a lot of minitrenches with the stump cutter to soften up the dirt and roots.

I have one for my PT-1418, and I've used it to cut quite a few stumps. It's probably my least favorite attachment, to be honest. It will do the job, but it takes quite a bit of time. It slings all the debris back at the operator and the tractor, which I really don't like.

That said, it may not be as fast as I'd expect, but it's a heckuva lot faster than cutting a stump by hand. It's also quite good for cutting mini-trenches, as someone else had mentioned. If you want to bury 12V landscape lighting wire or sprinkler hose, etc., it'll cut a trench in dirt in a hurry.

I haven't tried it, but I'll bet this thing would cut a slice in asphalt as well. Might even cut a groove in concrete (but I'll bet you'd have to change the blade after that!)

I got mine with my old used machine, so in my humble opinion, a small stump grinder is better than no stump grinder.

Hey! Thanks 14...Power-trac told me that the stump grinder motor wasn't reversible, or I would have already turned this sucker around! I guess they were incorrect...

Thx,
Dave

Don't know about the new ones, but I doubt it. On my old one, the blade itself is replaceable.

I checked with 2 large hydraulic distributors who stated that the White Hydraulics Roller Stator Motor is 100% reversible.

I do not know if this is true for your motor. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
However, I took the word of these hydraulic experts, and my Stump Grinder runs great!!
