Power steering pump "filter"

OOPS ! I forgot / Alan, good luck w/your rebuild. I have leaks in mine to repair also. Dreading the job of pulling steering wheel off. When I purchased tractor , center cap was missing and totally corroaded.

Since the filter is the resevoir.. i always took the 'power steering fluid' as meaning that that sump was for the PS.. not any crank case oil.

I believe a quick check of the specifications section of your manual will tell you what oil the manufacturer intended to go in there. I know UTF goes in my ford PS systems.. etc.

As for PS/ATF.. lots of times it's interchangeable.. IE.. qts of ATF are cheaper than pints of PS fluid. Now.. if you are talking specialty ATF fluids with friction modifiers.. all bets are off.. etc.

Cleaner? A new un-opend bottle of UTF should be just as clean as a new un-opened bottle of ATF/PS.. etc..

AH, a difference of opinion , on this site ? can't believe it
My thought was power steering fluid is a much cleaner fluid and when I purchased the filter it had a decal on it "power steering fluid". I guess it could be interpreted to mean " Rookie , fluid goes here " . I agree the 134 fluid would work.
It certainly elimates confusion using 1 product.
However , I would be relucant to use ATF in the steering/ I have always noticed ATF as being a product designed for " less slippage ".

"Use power steering fluid , NOT hydro fluid and filter should last alot longer." That's a direct quote from your earlier post in this same thread. Nothing mentioned about ATF.

134 not only "would work", it is the factory fill and ONLY fluid recommended by the manufacturer. Automotive "power steering fluid" is much less viscous and is generally a less well defined product. There is a little more to this than my differing opinion.

I give up , I can't win {it's hard to win when you incorrect } If and when I get that steering wheel off I'll drain that p/s fluid and put in the correct fluid. Thanks for input !

My TC45D leaks at he base of this filter. How is the filter removed from it's base? Screw on?

Not sure if it's the same but on a 1715 it screws on like an upside down oil filter.

Anyone know what's in these filters? Is is a screen or paper element. Considering the price $116 it occurs to me that it might be a screen type filter that could be cleaned and reused.
