Before I make the big purchase, does Kubota have the power steering problems on the B27/2910 series fixed? What do I look for on the newer models to make sure I'm getting one that has the updated power steering? What were the symptoms on the problem?

Any other things I should watch for?

Turfman, the first B2710s had a single spin on hydraulic oil filter (on the left side) and two strainers (one on each side). The newer models (and all the B2910s, I think) have two spin on filters (one on each side).

I have a 2710 that had the steering problems. It has been retrofitted to be more like the new models. The steering is working fine, but it mostly gave problems in extreme heat. Won't know for sure until next summer.

MY 2910 was repaired a couple of months ago. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif It has not had a problem since repair. Kubota seems to be committed to repairing the few tractors that have this problem. Putting the upgrades on older 2710’s is not necessarily the answer to the problem. My 2910 had all these upgrades and still had the powersteering problem.
Next summer will when it gets hot will be when I know if my tractor is fixed.
Your post has reminded me to give Kubota a call and see if they have found out anything else about this problem.

Well I don't know if my '99 B2710 going to have power steering problems this summer or not. After much ado, Kubota did a major retrofit last fall that was supposed to fix the problem. However, I am concerned, because during brush hogging this weekend in about 90 degree weather, the steering was binding some, but it was ONLY in high range while driving from one place to another, after the tractor was good and hot. Any length of time idling solved the problem, and the problem never did occur while I was actually mowing in medium range.

However, I don't think the steering should EVER bind, period, unless the wheel gets hung on terrain or something. Basically after mowing 2 or 3 hours, then going to high range to drive to another section, thats when it would bind up. Basically its like someone is grabbing the steering wheel. If I move the steering wheel it grabs going both ways, every time.

You 2710 owners - would you please test your steering in high gear when your tractor has been worked in the heat for a long time, to see if you detect any binding at all?

I can probably live with it, but what I'm afraid of is that my problem is NOT fixed, and when it gets to be 98 or more my steering problems while trying to mow in medium range will come back.

FIXED Power steering on 27/2910

KUBOTA has fixed the Power Steering on my B2910.

Yesterday I cut my lawn in above 80-degree weather without the power steering failing. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif This problem has taken since the summer of 2000 to fix. The latest fix 2 weeks ago seems to be the answer.
The power steering return line was rerouted to solve the problem.

There have been several threads on power steering for the 27-2910 series of tractors. Only a few have been affected. But finding the fix has taken almost 3 whole summers.
I started a Power Steering Problem Not Solved. But figured this would be a better place since Turfman asked the question on the power steering.

My tractor has to make one last trip to the dealer to complete repairs. /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Tractor should be good for many more years of ownership. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Re: FIXED Power steering on 27/2910

I had the retrofit late last summer and I am satisfied. I have brush hogged in 98 degree weather with no problems. The only slight concern is that the steering still binds a little bit in high range only after hours of hard work, including mowing. No particular problem, but it doesn't do it when its cool.

I'm happy, and plan to keep my 2710 indefinitely. Absolutely no other problems in nearly 400 hours and the tractor continues to amaze me with its capabilities.

Re: FIXED Power steering on 27/2910

Do you think that it would make sense for those of us who have not had the problem to get the fix even if we haven't been experiencing the problem? Sort of a preventative against possible flare-ups in later life. I ask because I have only a couple weeks of warranty left. Is this a documented Kubota fix that my dealer can find?
