massey 135
hi everyone,
thanks to everyone with help with my massey 2300, i also have a john deere 425, it's been a good tractor, i am noticing that the power steering cylinder is leaking, john deere wants 400 for a new one, and i am assuming used ones wont be much better than mine. would anyone know if it would be safe tp try power steering sealer. what would it do to the rest of the system. can i rebuild mine?
thanks again

Somebody who is good with a lathe should be able to cut it apart. Once it's apart you should be able to rebuild it and weld it back together. For $400 I'd try it. I had a 955 with a loose tie rod end. I cut the old one off and welded a matching one from NAPA back on.

so what your saying that the cylinder doesnt have the typical spin in end with o rings?

You know I can't say for sure. The steering cylinders on my 955 and my 4410 were welded together so I just assumed that the 425 would be the same. There are no internal parts for a 425 steering cylinder listed in JD parts book so I'm pretty sure it's welded together.

John Deere - Parts Catalog is the parts page.

sounds like john deere has a lock on the cylinder, i have a band saw, i could cut it slowly on the one weld and see if i can find o ring inside

hi again,
I had a chance to get under the tractor, ( had to take the deck off), it is not the cylinder leaking but the pump it self. it looks like I will have to take the upper shell off to get to the pump and make sure it is that and not a hose on top.
