I notice MF recommend using ATF fluid eg dexron 11 in the PS system for the 200 series and presumably 135s etc as they use the same pump.

Ive been topping up my 253 with generic power steering fluid. Is this a problem, should I flush and refill with ATF?

The system leaks at one of the rams and I need to add a couple of ozs every few weeks. Will have a look at resealing the rams one day soon as per the advice of Shona!

most of these old tractor power steering systems will run on any hyd or utf fluid, including real 'power steering' fluid, and many atf types and most oils from 10w thru 30w.

ATF fluid is likely cheaper than your power steering fluid.. but it should not hurt any either way..

thanks, can you mix n match the different fluids, eg top up my power steering fluid with atf?

ps and atf are almost identical.

As a general rule.. ok to top off.. but I would't purposfully mix different fluids.
