Okay for you fuel gurus out there I have a few questions. When I first purchased my used Yanmar diesel tractor the guy I purchased it from advised me to use this fuel additive in my fuel. I am not having any problems with it all. In fact if runs great. However, my question is rather which one of the Power Service additives should I use. The one that I have been using is call Diesel klean with Cetane boost (grey bottle). It was the only kind I saw on the store shelf when I bought it. I was at Wally World the other day and they had some in a white bottle and it did not say diesel Klean or cetane boost.

Does anyone know if I am using the correct product? If not will it harm my engine? I have put about 100 hours on the engine using this stuff.

Also, what is Cetane? It sounds to me similar to octane in gasoline.

In our truck fleet we use a white bottle with black label, Power Service Diesel Fuel Conditioner. For the most part we use it in the winter as it has anti-gel properties and I don't really favor any particular brand, it just happens that this year are using Power Service. It seems to have better specs than many of the brands, but I think all of them are pretty good. Some people use fuel conditioners year round, others only seasonally for the anti-gel properties. They will not hurt the engine and they will keep the fuel system cleaner. Regarding your question about cetane, in simple terms, think octane.

Use the white bottle of Powerservice for everyday use.

Cetane is 100% the direct opposite of octane.

If I remember correctly, The names reflect the number of Carbon atoms in the molecule.
Octane is C8H18
Cetane is C5H12

Typical fules are Hydrocarbons of the type CnH(2n+2).

I use Power Service Diesel Fuel Conditioner year round. It acts as an anti-gel, cleaner, and cetane booster in the winter and you get the cleaning and booster properties in warm weather. It's cheap, why not!
