The local power company is replacing the questionable poles in our area. Like any self-respecting cheapskate I went over and asked what their plans are for the ones they cut down. "How many do ya want?" was the answer.

I'm thinking of creating a retaining wall around our small greenhouse for wildflowers, veggies, etc.

Thinking about having the new bed about 2' wide... running the length of the wall in this pic... with a small bed on either side of the door...

The poles I have are from the '60's... most look to be in reasonable shape... 8" to 10" in diameter...the one on the right is the worst... probably use that one buried for the base... I'm only gonna have about two poles stacked in height above ground (the buried, bad shape pole would make 3 high)...

Being so old, the poles were only butt soaked... and most were cut down rather than pulled... I have one pole with creosote... gonna cut that off and find another use for it...

I'm looking for idea on how to fasten the poles together once I have them laying down and stacked...

I was thinking of using some treated poles from the local ranch supply sunk vertically outside the raised bed and using the soil inside the bed to hold the poles against the vertical support... not sure about that one...

Maybe drill a correct size hole and insert sections of rebar through the layers?

Any suggestions?

1) they aren't just "butt treated", they are treated through and through, but sun/rain/air have leaked a lot of the CCA/treatment out.

2) It's going to be difficult to get a nice double or triple stack of them cause they tapper

I would just drill holes through them and drive sections of rebar through them (an into the ground)
Stagger the large and small but ends.
