Power Beyond Kit?

One advantage of the PB kit is that you get the highest pressure and flow rate that the tractor can deliver. It uses large tubing and the return dumps directly into the sump. It's set up that way to feed a hungry backhoe.

The down side, as stated is that it uses the rockshaft circuit so it preempts flow to the lift the 3pt. So when you want to lift and move the splitter, you have to swap the hoses over. I have thought about plumbing in a diverter valve in the PB circuit. It would have to be a big one, but it is definitely possible.

But, realistically,
to re-energize the 3ph,
wouldn't he only have to remove
the return hose from the "direct
to sump" port and plug it into
the "rockshaft circuit" port?
that should allow the 3ph to work,
with the oil flowing thru the splitter
valve into the rockshaft valve.

Thanks for all the great responses. I think I will spring for the factory kit and do the installation myself. I like my tractor very much (I don't sleep with it though) and I plan on keeping it for decades. As was noted the pain of a poor job is remembered long after the pain of the higher price is gone. Or something to that effect.
I would be interested in a good solution to the concern about leaving the splitter hooked up and being able to move it up and down, it probably is not a big deal but someone may have a great idea!!

Is the rock shaft circuit open center? If so then it should work fine.
That's how the 855 worked. But I was told the bigger backhoes need the less restrictive direct return...haven't done the research myself though.
Of course you would have to reverse the sex fittings for the hoses on the splitter but that's no biggy.

It is that simple. The hose/fittings on the rear for the power beyond is a loop. If you send the pressure side of the power beyond (the out from the DSCV) to the pressure port on a open center control valve, and then direct the tank port on the open center control valve back to the return hose of the power beyond, you maintain all controls to the 3PT and maintain the loop.

That is the trick, using the loop hose as the return side to the open center control valve completes the circuit and maintains the 3PT functions.

While I do not have a backhoe yet, I have checked into several Woods models and they list plumbing them this same way when using the tractors power beyond.

Go back to the begining folks. The poster wants to use a power beyond powered log spliter on a 3320.

The smaller 2x20 series, as well as the older tractors, just have a single loop power beyond circuit. The 3x20 series have three lines. The extra return line bypasses the rockshaft circuit and is a direct dump to the sump. This is for higher flow rate and cooler operation, or so I have been told. It also solves the problem of dissabling the rockshaft while the backhoe is installed. The older tractors did that with a external bar.

We then speculated that we (3x20 owners) could just use the rockshaft loop back, like the smaller tractors, when we were just using a splitter. This would give us the ability to continue to use the rockshaft, to lift the 3pt. That would be a good thing.

The biggest gotcha using PB is that while you are using it you will not have 3point functionality. Using the 3rd function would retain the 3 point operation...

From reading posts here over the last several years, it appears that is the way many manufactures plumb their PBY. They can be plumbed so that the three-point functions along with the PBY. I don't know if any other manufactures plumb them that way but Massey Ferguson compacts or the larger size models anyway, are plumbed to use both. If any one wants a schematic of how they as set up let me know. I have a drawing or two.

Not having seen a 3x20 series I was not sure if they matched what why had.

I looked at what JD had online for the parts list for this tractors power beyond, looks like there are three lines, but would not placing the needed control valve in between the loop line and where it normally connects act just like what I have?
