I am doing my 50 hour service and was wondering what other do to get the fluid out of the 5 gallon pail into the tractor without making a mess. I did see some pail pumps at TSC stagically placed near the 5 gallon pails of fluid. If i recall they were $25-$30. It got me wondoering how well they work or if there is a beter way to transfer the fluid. I have a funnel and hose, but htink it could get messy. What do you use or do?

I use a large flexible funnel and always have the spout at the top of the five gallon pail when pouring.

Agree with getting one. I bought the TSC one many years ago. Still working fine.
HF also sells one for 1/2 price of TSC. Might be worth a try.

5 Gallon Oil Pump

If you think you'll have regular use for it, I'd agree with the posters above. If long time between uses, it's a chore to clean the thing out, and you don't want it sitting with any fluid in it for the years before next use (getting gunky, sticky and dusty) - you'd want to clean it out very well.

Another option (the one I did when doing my 50 hour service) is to pour a gallon from your 5-gal container into a very CLEAN 2-gallon bucket (or other clean large container with open top and spout). Then pour from that into the funnel going into your hydro fill hole. Works like a charm, and allows you to measure the fluid as it goes in. Easy cleanup afterwards, and the bucket has 1001 other uses.

Ran into the same problem. I solved it by pouring into a gal jug (clean) I had. First couple of gallons works good, then the bucket is light enough to pour directly. A pump would probably work good too, but I'm cheap:cool:

Same idea as TJ, I bought a bought two 2 1/2 gal containers and used one to pour from after refilling with the 5 gal bucket.

I have the HF pail pump, cheap plastic but it works. I tried the long spout funnel but that was slow and messy the first time. I work my BX hard so change fluid and filter every 300 Hrs. Have 1200 Hrs in 4 years of working it. Also change hydraulic implements often so lose a little there and top up a quart here and there. I keep a plastic bag over the pail to keep it all clean.

I've transferred from 5 gallon to smaller containers also, using a battery powered pump, then placed the smaller container next to my fill point, and used the pump again. I don't recall where I ended up buying mine, and there are many out there, but search for "Battery-Operated Liquid Transfer Pump" and you'll see a bunch.
