poured concrete foundation lately?? - how much $$$

I am putting up another outbuilding...and considering putting a "real" foundation under it...footers down at 4', 6inch concrete wall to just above grade, and possibly a finished cement floor in it....

Approximate dimension: 20x34.

Before I waste time waiting for a cement guy to call me back (which they never do), anyone had a foundation (like I described) done recently? How much did it cost? and what was the size?

Just trying to see if its afforable for an outbuilding...or not..I've always done the piers instead.

Last year during the concrete crunch, we paid about $90 per cubic yard for our house foundation and slab. I don't have the number handy on the cost of the footers. But at least you can go with the cost per yard.

I have heard, and it seems to work, is that you take the cost of the materials and muliply by 2 or 3 to get the final cost done per contractor. Should at least give you a close number.

This is not a direct answer to your question, however, I found THIS CALCULATOR to be helpful in the past. Will calculate the approximate quantity of concrete required for either a foundation slab or for foundation footings, round or cylindrical in shape.

I have a friend that does the batching at the concrete plant. He told me yesterday that the price of concrete was $94 a yard in Central MA.

Have you ever considered a permant wood foundation? I have done several of these in my building career and they work out really well. They can be pre-framed and dropped onto a peastone footer. The International Residential building codes have all the specs you need.

I just built a 24 by 32 garage. Footings at 42", poured walls, finished cement floor, 20' by 9' concrete approach pad plus a 3' x 4' pad at the side entry door. The concrete work was over $8000.

Here in southern maine 4' frost walls go fro 40-45 dollars a ft for a total of about 4600-4800. That size floor would cost about 1250.

Thanks everyone for the feedback...its as I was afraid of: to expensive for the type of project I had planned. Guess I stick with the PT posts and cement piers...for an outbuilding they seem to do just fine.
