@ JD5210 and farmer2009, short story: I own the adjacent property, sharing a fence line.
The land had been my Great Grandfather's; a cousin sold this 45 acres in 1999 to the poultry farmer and the barns were built, operated about 10 years and then about ~2009 (after several personal issues of his divorce, etc.,) everyone walked away from his, leaving it to the bank. There's much more to the story, including one failed bank in the middle of the recent banking crisis. The final bank put it on mortgage default courthouse auction last year and I got it then (in a very good deal).
I am not in the chicken business, I live two hours away from my farm. The poultry processor in this region is very tight-fisted and would not allow operation without upgrades to the equipment and the operator living onsite. Trust me, I vetted every reasonable option on the farm. I was fortunate to sell all the feeder and water lines, brooders, fans, etc., in the past few months at a better price than I was told I would be able.
I don't want to be in the storage business either. I'd rather have the approx 5 acres these sit on back to pasture or plant some pines there (still deciding on what I will do with this plot where the pads will remain, that's another discussion).
