I have to say that I purchased a wood shark (a bit smaller than the wild thing) at least 7 years ago at Wal-Mart for around $120 just to do some trim work. At the time I was just bleeding money on a new house purchase, so I just couldn't justify dropping $400 on a decent saw. It's underpowered and requires patience and frequent sharpening to cut anything larger than 10-12" but honestly that little POS owes me nothing. I ended up using it to cut my firewood for 4 years until I could afford the Husky I now use.
I have more hours on that little piece of junk than I ever would have imagined. It still runs half decent and I use it as my beater saw where I don't want to damage my Husky.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to cut firewood, but for your average homeowner just trimming branches and small cleanup work I think I would.
Obviously it's an inexpensive saw, and cuts like one, but I can't argue that it's still running and I beat the **** out of that thing. :laughing:

to try an d answer every1s qs,the saw was on sale for $130.an we was in a tight an needed it now so i bought it.then get it home an it wont run enough todo much of anything.so we take it back an i tell them i either want my money or another saw.they say no we want to send it off to see whats wrong.an i tell them they pay to fix it.so the manager says we owe them $50,i say no.then he proceeds to tell me that we dont know the 1st thing bout running saws,an thats when i promply unload on him.an tell him i wont buy anymore major purchases from him.i think he knew that in the last 2wks or so i had just bought close to $1500 in barbed wire an T posts.bottomline is i have a saw that i wont use.

1*Took the saw back to TSC they say we owe them $50.an that we didnt know what we was doing,wrong thing to say.so i unload on the manager,telling him that 2*We didnt go into the saw removing the filter
1*Why would there be a 50 dollar charge ?
Wasn't the saw under warranty?
2*Are you saying you did or didn't mess with with the filter .

That's why they are called Poulan's, because you need to keep pullin and pullin and pullin....:laughing:

problem is bird,
1*it shows what manufacturer are making now, not way back when. we keep buying them as we seem to think it will be good enough for a few trees cutting.
2*When I saw the comment removing filter -- red flag. u might be right, but they have a right to defend themselves from your mods.
1*Just like in the tractor industry.
2*A filter is a maintenance item not a mod.

When my Husqavarna saw died on me, I figured I'd go cheap and buy disposable. If I got a year out of a Wild Thing, I would have been happy. I messed around with it for a couple of days, but couldn't ever get it to run consistantly. Then I couldn't get it to start. I took it back to Home Depot and bought Stihl. I like Stihl and have two of them now, but I've discovered Echo and I like them A LOT better then Stihl.

we never touched or removed the filter,an he was implying that we did.yes the saw was under warranty,they was charging us $35 labor an $15 for the filter.

Buying your chainsaw at TSC is like buying a pacemaker at Radio Shack. I don't recommend it.

Having worked at a TSC, we had too many "weekend renters" that bought, used, and returned a product for a refund. You understand.

Was the saw on the shelf or in a box from in back? It's possible that someone cannibalized it to sell a part...

Anyway, GO STIHL!

I know Sears used to have that problem with things like carpet cleaners. The only time I've returned anything to TSC was in Waco, TX, and I couldn't have asked to be treated any better. I bought a box blade that had welds break loose in less than an hour behind a B7100 Kubota. They exchanged it for another one and the same thing happened. It was just bad welds, and I told the guy that was the problem and asked if they had someone who could weld (I didn't have a welding rig myself at the time). They didn't have anyone to fix it, but said I could exchange it again, I could go get a welder to fix it and bring him the bill for a refund, I could fix it myself if I wanted and they'd discount it, or I could take a cash refund. Since I'd broken two, I took the refund and bought a more expensive box blade from my tractor dealer.

I bought a 18 inch bar "Wild Thing" almost 16 years ago. I have heated with wood for the last 10 years. Now, I don't use 10 cords of wood like my relatives in VT But I do burn about 4 cords [per season... And I'm ahead by two seasons of wood. That saw has only consumed gas, oil and chains.... Oh yeah ... I just changed the gas cap this summer. Seems like the gasahol swells the plastic of the cap. I do use 2 cycle oil with stabilizer and/or fresh fuel. It never sits more than a few weeks at a time. It doesn't have the power of the bigger saws. But doesn't weigh as much either. The bar oil system is a mess but I've learned to live with it. I have been well served by my saw.

I have used a wild thang chain saw for over ten years.I have a Stihl also ,that I use for hard and heavy cutting but for minor trimming I always grab the Poulan because its lightweight.I had a minor problem keeping it running for a while until I discovered the screws holding the carb were loose from the factory after fixing that it has always ran well. I have got my $120 worth out of it.

Yep, I paid $119.99 (plus tax) for my last Poulan on March 25, 1997, at Western Auto. I sold it to a neighbor five and a half years later when I had to move back to town. We had done a little work together and he liked my lightweight Poulan better than the much heavier saw he already had.
