I am going to attempt a small fencing project and have considered whether I would get my money out of a new post hole digger over the years. A friend suggested that I buy the pointed posts and push them into the ground with my loader bucket instead of buying the hydraulic unit designed for this. Dumb idea or worth a try? I understand that the plus (besides no implement to purchase) is that they are tight right away and the negative is they can be hard to keep straight. What do you all think.

3 years ago I priced a plastic fence to put around our new pool. Materials were about $1000 and installation estimate was also about $1000. A new Danuser with 9" auger sold for about $1000, too. I had the time, so I bought the PHD and installed the fence myself. My PHD doesn't get used much, but it's already paid for itself, and there's no substitute when that's what you need.

It is gonna be pretty tough to seat a post deep enough by FEL pressure. I have used my FEL to seat a post that is a little bigger than the hole after I dig it with my PHD and that works well. My PHD was $375, and well worth the expense.

I found an E-Bay seller, Yawgers Equipment, that has a Leinbach 7300Post hole digger *including* 6,9,and 12 inch augers for $600. Freight to my place in Nevada was another $235 or so from back east somewhere. Best deal I could find and the digger works just fine. You might check it out.
