Kubota 5040
I am having trouble with all the wobbling by the post hole digger. I have a Kubota M5040 and bought the post hole digger at tractor supply. Any suggestions? Thanks Lucky 13

What do you mean by wobble? The few times I used a 3 point hitch post hole digger if I had a 12" auger I got a 12-14" hole. 6" auger gives something close to a 6" hole depending on how much rock I hit, how big it is and if it gets pulled out fast.

My lower arms on JD870 3 point hitch has a float mode for mowing and a fixed mode for working implements that I do not want float. Does your tractor have floating arms that might be causing some wobble? Even if the arms are not in float mode the tractor with shake and rattle unless then tractor is huge. Post hole diggers are often not precision tools. Especially low priced ones with cheap augers.

what RPM you running it at?

Start your holes slow and build RPM as you need it. Going in WFO makes wobble worse.

How old is you auger bit? Is it straight and balanced? A bent auger wobbles more than a straight auger. A cheap auger wobbles more than a HQ balanced one. If Auger is damaged it is unbalanced for sure.

3 point hitch pins and all connecting hardware in VGC? loose and it wobbles worse than new and tight.

I was digging in Rocky soil. Not solid rock but something fist size roughly. I would start my holes with shovel to get surface rock out and set the auger in. It worked pretty good.

My experience with any rocks or harder packed soils has been you have to bury the first 1/3 of the auger before it will support its self and not "wobble"

If you have help to put some down tension on the auger that first part of the hole, drill it quickly, clean it out and then continue.

Good luck

I hate to sound like the safty police! But! I dont know how much the OP has been around :tractor::tractor:'s You need to be VERY carefull doing this, that Rotating shaft comeing off the PTO loves to grabe hold and realy hurt those helppers!
Some here have welded on pipe ext, off the rear of the PHD's to help assist in adding weight and staying away from the pto shaft!

JUST THINK SAFETY

the PH digger is gonna wabble an shake digging holes.thats just the way it is.its best to start digging the hole at 1000 or 1100rpms.because once the bit takes holt it can digg fast an be sucked in the hole at idle.an sometimes it lock up in the hole.only put down pressure on a digger when you know what your doing.because you can get hurt real bad if things go wrong.
