I'm planning on purchasing a Post hole digger. I talked to my Kubota dealer and he Quoted me a $850.00 price. Then on Ebay i found one for $399.00. I plan on limited use, so i thougth i might be able to save a few $$ anyone have any luck with one of these less expensive ones?
Still recovering from the Purchase of my bx23. Its awesome!

I've seen a variety of good PHDs from around $380 to $500 that should do a fine job for you. The price you were quoted seems rather high and the unit is probably similar to the ones in the $400s range. This is all speculation, but I've seen quite a few of these and don't see any need to pay more than around $500. John

The difference could be in the implement height. There is a difference in the frame design to fit smaller compacts. Woods equipment calls theirs something like an "estate series". Something to consider. Might want to try before you buy.

The standard size diggers will be too big for the BX. I went thru the same process and bought a Land Pride PD 10 which is smaller than the the standard diggers and even with it the auger only clears the ground by about a foot.

Tried to post this this morning but after typing it could not access TBN... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

So....since I typed it...here it is. Not sure if it adds anything to the thread or not...

I have a Rhino HPHD PHD and it will not work on my BX2200. Actually the auger just clears the ground by about 4 inches on my B2910. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I forget what it cost, but it was more than $600 I'm pretty sure. That included the slip clutch option...

Anyway, the point I am trying to make is that all PHDs will not work on the BX, due to the rather limited 3PH that the BX has. Might be better to buy local just in case. That way you could take it back possibly.

TSC, if you have one in your area, seems to always have one of the "inexpensive" PHDs on hand that you could talke a look before you buy.

There is also a line of implements designed for the BX that work better with the 3PH. I forget who makes the PHDs though. I think they have a shorter than standard auger, but don't remember any of the specifics.

I have a Worksaver model 300 (Short auger 30") Works great on my BX. Think I paid $650 for it locally.

I think some of the lower priced PHDs will work fine if you are not using it professionally, maybe even if you are. (as long as they fit your BX properly).

I have seen posts where guys have modified their BX 3 point hitch to accept full length augers. I haven't done this yet.

Make sure you buy a large enough auger. For instance a 9" auger is the minimum I would use for a 4" post. I bought mine with a 6" not knowing this. I had to go out and buy the 9" to set 4" posts.
