Does anyone have information on what brand of a post-driver that is good but doesn’t cost a arm and a leg.

Have you considered looking for a used one..?? 10 years ago, I bought a good, barely used, fully hydraulic Shaver HD-8, for 1/3 the price of a new one on ebay. It was a 3 hour one way drive to get it, but saving $1600.00, it was worth the trip for me. Plumbed it up to my old Ford 2000, anddrove 350 posts, with the only issue. broke a return spring after about 75 posts. Called local dealers that handled parts,and it was going to be 7-10 days before they could get one in. Checked online, and found Kencove fence supply, and they sold direct replacement aftermarket springs, for about 2/3 the price at local dealers, w/free shipping, and had them in 3 days. Ordered 2 just in case, but the first one I put on lasted the rest of the posts I drove. Kencove Farm Fence Supplies - Kencove

I would suggest which ever one you choose, to get a full hydraulic tilt model. Worth the extra money, to tilt with hydraulics, rather that hand screw adjustments.

Look for one's from private individuals on Craigslist FB Marketplace, ebay, etc.

Dad bought a used Shaver HD8 in the mid 1970's. Apart from some safety items that have been bolted on new units over time and a valve manufacturer change it was identical to one you would buy today.

I have been looking for used ones after I seen the cost of the new ones. I will start looking on eBay and other sites farther away from where I am. Thanks for the information.

I don't like shavers at all. Google blackcat post pounder. I can recommend them. They can be found used

Use right or left handed or one handed.. but suggest both.

Definitely a two handed model but use as you wish.
:laughing::laughing:
Both under a 100 bucks.

Agreed. Mine is from the early 1970's, it uses the same parts as ones built today. I wish mine had some of the creature comfort safety items the new ones do but I haven't felt like breaking down and buying those parts to put on mine either.

To the original poster, your tractor should handle the Shaver HD-8 just fine. I have a Mahindra 2638 and while I haven't got my Shaver hooked up to it yet I see no reason that it will not work, I just need to find a pipe fitting that will thread into the hydraulic fill so I can direct plumb the return into it. I've got a shop I need to take the tractor to that should either have the correct threaded part or can make it.
