Possible to run hyd. pump off of belt? Engine swap question

Hi, bought a yanmar 135 2cyl diesel in parts with a replacement motor - another 13hp diesel from a thermoking reefer.

With some brackets, and a bell-housing adapter it will bolt up. However, the original motor has a gear driven hydraulic pump, and of course the reefer motor has no hydraulic pump.

Would it be possible to try to run the hyd. pump off of a belt on the engine going in? Another possible issue is that the replacement motor has a water pump on the accessory pulley where the original did not. Possible?

Depends on the pump. Some models will allow the side loading of the bearings caused by the belt and some will not.

You could possibly use a clutch pump.
