Happy Sunday everyone, it finally cleared up around here in Ohio today and thought I would move some dirt before it freezes up. (It's coming.)
Anyway I went into the dirt pile and grabbed a bucket of dirt. I started raising up and noticed the tractor was still in a bind. Like the clutch was still engaged, even though pedal was depressed. The tractor moved forward about 3 feet before the what seemed to me clutch released. Then I moved the shuttle to reverse and went on my way. This issue has just reared its head.

Some things I noted.
Does it only when tractor has resistance (bucket in dirt). Normal forward and reverse seem ok.
I adjusted free play in the clutch, This does not change anything.
The clutch does not slip a bit. Even when pulling 2 bottom.
Shuttle has not even been as easy as I would have liked.

Tractor is a gear mahindra 4035 with 87 hours.

Any ideas?

Did you have it in 4WD? If so, try the same thing again in 2WD...I'm guessing maybe the "clutching" in 4WD may have something to do with it.....let us know.. Bobg in VA

Come to think of it, yes it was. I will give it another shot this coming weekend in 2 wd. And will report back.

If you go into a pile of dirt in any gear higher than 1st gear, you can ruin the clutch. I almost did, but had enough adjustment to make it right. Did you go to the max adjust limit for free play? If so.......it's clutch R&R time.

What! Only go into dirt in first gear! If this is true I think I will sell my tractor and get and good one! It seems a lot of people are having clutch trouble with Mahindra tractors. I personally know 2 people that have Mahindra's and both have replaced the clutch with very few hours! I have ran tractors all my life, mine and other people's and company tractors and have never had a clutch problem on any of them. This worries me as I have a 5035 with 50+ hours on it! I have an Allis chamlers that is 66 years old with only 1 clutch replacement and it was farmed with for 30+ years and used in construction for 20 and the rest personal use!

There is a very good reason you will have a hard time finding a tractor for rent with a clutch. It has nothing to do with the brand - just the operator.

I have to a agree with Alafarm. If the clutch is smoked. I am done with a gear tractor. I grew up working at my fathers excavating company and have loaded thousands upon thousands yards of dirt, stone and what even else. We always worked on our own equipment and were taught to treat it with respect. I truly do not think this is operator error.
I am starting to think it is a busted finger on the pressure plate, from the research I have been doing.
If somebody I was paying to move dirt with a tractor was in first gear...I would run them off.

Since you think the issue is related to a loaded bucket might want to check all the loader mounting bolts for looseness and transmission bell housing for cracks. Seems unlikely with 87 hr but you never know...

I had a 1952 Harry Ferguson with loader and bh for 25 years. When I got it the engine was totally worn out. I overhauled it, down to having to turn the crank shaft and it was so out of round I wasn't sure it could be saved. When I went to replace the clutch, it didn't need it. I left it alone. It did not appear that the tractor had been apart.

I used it heavy for 25 years and gave it to my son who is still using it with the same clutch. Neither of us has ever adjusted the clutch linkage. We both cleared our land and built our houses using it.

The operator is usually 90 % of the problem. I wish I had a dollar for every JD 1070 with FEL I put clutchs in. We also know that they don't build them like they use to.

It appears to me the clutch is sticking at times. Any debris in the linkage? Lube points missed? Possibly the clutch pad has separated from the disk.
With only 87 hours on it is it still in warranty?

I guess I should have stated it as....................lowest gear in the range you are in. I was loading in mid range, 3rd gear. I was told by someone on here to drop down into lowest gear of the range you are in and go into the pile. Since I started doing that..........I have not had a problem...........and I am the only operator. Operator error, it was in my case. I travel with dirt in mid range 3rd...........and return with an empty bucket in mid range 4th.

This is a shuttle im guessing? or PST? I would try to keep the 4wd in while doing heavy loader work but if you havnt taken it out in a while and used the diff also its good to go through the motions.. either way that's not going to relate to the clutch.. you definitely don't want to be running around in a high gear trying to back and forth heavy loads of dirt that's just asking for clutch issues... and 90% of the time there is only one way a clutch will burn up and its from the operator.

Still did it feel like a pop and it stopped moving and was it moving with full power or did it just creep along?

That sounds a little more reasonable. I gear down sometimes, just depends on the dirt and my momentum. If it is loose dirt and I am moving, I just slide in clutch and back out. If it is hard or packed or heavy clay I will gear down. The main thing is not to let it bog and slip the clutch. Also has to do with the size of tractor, traction and bucket size.

Just wanted to provide a follow up, on my tractor. So I took the machine to Marcy's tractor in Pierpont OH and they warrantied the clutch. The problem must have been a defect in the clutch, pressure plate or all of it. It was wearing on the top on one side and the bottom on the other. All new clutch pressure plate and bearings were installed. The only issue I had was the o-rings on the hydraulic strainer were reused and it was torn causing a suction leak. They are shipping me new gaskets and Orings small price to pay I guess.

how old is your 4035 it was a pst where you dont need to depress the clutch from forward right
