They had one of those in a shop I worked at for awhile in my younger days. Very handy for little jobs.

What really helps me with for this is the fact that any flat surface in my garage / shop always attracts everything from toys and balls to tools etc etc. I have a vise on a bench, but I hate blowing sparks into piles of things.
As is the case with most problems, taking the time to get things ready (in this case cleanup) pays off in both build time and safety.
