New holland t2310
I have a new holland t2310(same as tc40). I was pulling the box blade and started to hear clunking and could see the front tire vibrate when it did. It stopped when I took it out of 4 wheel. Fluid level was good in front axle and final drives so I drained the oil to look for metal chunks or large shavings. The right final drive had some small metal shavings not many. I took the driveshaft off and checked the couplers they looked fine. Spun the tires every which way I could in 2 and 4 wheel nothing noticeable. The right side does make a little more noise than the left when spinning so definetly suspect the right side. Is there anything else I can or should do before I tear into the front axle. I did notice my tie rod has a lot of play in the ball joint could that cause the binding?

Portals, bevel gears, ring, and pinion gears are how the power flows out to the front wheels. Also, the front axle support could be in the process of being shelled. In my case, the center axle support broke both ears, but I didn't notice the problem until a chunk of the center support case dropped a chunk into my ring and pinion and chipped a tooth, leading to a catastrophic failure. I didn't detail the repair in the video. Hopefully, your issue is much, much less expensive to repair.

I took the Dropbox cover off and found a lot of little metal shavings so i think it's in the drop axle assembly hopefully just a bearing

So what cover are you referring to? If you removed #28 that will almost always have some crap on it because everything small enough to fit between the balls of bearing #27 will wind up there. I would suggest you next remove cover #4 with the axle and bevel gear. Not all that difficult and once that's off a lot more will be visible.

And yes, for those concerned, there are no U joints. That design is used on larger tractors.
