I don't feed the fish in my ponds... BUT, every year I find my bigger fish dead, speared by a heron and too big for them to end up with...That makes sense. If you are going to feed your fish, then they will concentrate in one place and make it easy for a heron to catch them. Sounds like what happens with koi and goldfish ponds.
I don't need my bigger fish speared and left to die, I'd rather get rid of what spears them! AND I absolutely don't need all my frogs to disappear either... A friend of mine lost all of his frogs in one summer...
He saw a heron spear one and told me about it, he's not so happy now. He thought if he lost a frog or two, no big deal, but they are ALL gone now and he's shooting herons, hoping he can get more frogs for his pond.
