I agree with you... PROVIDED THEY ALSO pass the same requirements, training, and recertification that a police officer must go through.
Just curious, and maybe I don't understand . . . but if the teacher met all the qualifications for the individual state concealed carry permit then why would that not be good enough? Afterall, it is a state's rights issue, not a federal issue, so the individual state laws would apply. Are you suggesting the teachers need law enforcement training or gun training; the two are very different. Like I said, maybe I don't understand what you are saying and I do not want to read too much into it.

Yes. Train them on gun safety and tactics to use in case of an emergency. Publicize the fact that every teacher has a sidearm.
I'm not sure I'd want EVERY teacher to have a sidearm, but I'd certainly support those who WANT to carry a gun, and who qualify to have a CCW permit, to have the ability to have the gun.

I've had a carry permit for 33 years now and there are times and places I always carry. Not paranoid but cautious. There really are a lot of people out there that will hurt, maim and kill you for your cell phone, jacket or 2 cents. Schools are getting bad with violence getting more trouiblesome and gruesome. If you think just talking to people and saying be nice and don't bring weapons to school is working you better open your eyes. Things aren't as nice as they appear. Yes, I think teachers should be able to carry weapons if trained and certified to carry one. I think everyone should carry one for that matter who is a law abiding citizen and can legally carry. If you were a criminal and everyone was carrying you'd have to move out of town to accomplish your crime sprees or have a short career as most drug dealers have. Just my opinion. I'm not going to rant on. To each their own but I vote YES. {My son is a school counselor and he has a carry permit but not allowed in school.}

Because, as you know, just about anyone in Indiana can get a carry permit and that definately doesn't make them qualified to do anything with it. Just look at all the idiot car drivers. Now think about those idiots and put guns in their hands!

Everybody should carry a gun, an armed society is a polite society.
I just check all my guns, none of them killed anyone today.

Indiana is a pretty liberal state in handing out CCW permits, but most states are not quite the same. Many require formal classes and qualifications. However, in the case of gun free school zones, those are state laws. CCWs are state laws. So the states would be the ones who would regulate who gets the exemptions.

Since you brought it up, why do we let women drive cars in Indiana

I think anyone can get a permit or license to drive a car because it's huge business for the government to make money and also population control....

i don't know about your state, but in Maine there is a big difference between the requirements to get a carry permit, and the training which a law enforcement officer goes through.

P.S.; I'm not anti guns by any means; dialing "911" in rural areas equates "Dial a Prayer for cops." I do believe however, that every right carries a responsibility; if you are going to carry for protection, you should (voluntarily) undergo similar training and retraining that a law enforcement official goes through.

I also believe that "Homeland Security" is just another piece of horses*** imposed by this administration; any real effort would actively involve all of us in it's endeavors.

Then again, I have many opinions... you know the saying about them.

For those of you who claim folks should go through the same training/certification, etc. as police officers...do you KNOW what that is? I used to shoot competitively (handgun) and while I was good, I was nowhere near being ranked...and I was a better marksman than 90% of the LEOs who I ever shot with or against. Most LEOs shoot the minimum required rounds every year, and many fail to qualify without repeating the courses/tests. This is not a slam at LEOs in any way, but the fact is many never fire their weapon other than at annual or semi-annual qualification.

Someone is worried their child will get caught in a cross fire between a crazy person and an armed teacher? Would it be better if it was just the crazy person shooting at the kids with no armed teacher shooting back?

My wife is a teacher here in the "Communist-Wealth" of Massachusetts...

While I agree with the principle of arming teachers (and the administrators too -- they're the ones out wandering the hallways) in my opinion that as a group they're very unlikely to want to have or carry guns...

As a group, they're pretty "touchy-feely", let's talk out our differences kind of people... at least in my experience. In general, I don't think many of them would want to...

My wife, being retired military, and few other teachers I know are exceptions to this gross overgeneralization. BTW, in addition to pistols (as aircrew she carried one) she also was qualified on the M-16, M-60 and the grenade launcher (can't remember the nomenclature), but I think those just might be a bit much... :D
