I did a posting in January about a pole shop and shed I built last summer. I used logs from the property, with the help of my tractor of course. I'm taking on a bigger project building a 24x36 carriage shed using the same construction.

Here's the plan:

Here's what I've done so far:

The tractor has been key in getting the big logs into place. I can't say enough how much I appreciate my pallet forks but they wouldn't reach to the top of the ridge to place the beam. Here's where I'll probably get in trouble with the safety police but I got creative and made a boom to put up the beams.

It does look pretty hokey from the picts but it worked great. The yellow rope made it so I was able to position the beam from the seat of the tractor.

Here's my first pole building in case you're interested:

Looks pretty sweet. More challenging working with tapered logs.

Nice. I really enjoy seeing things built from raw logs. It makes it more rustic and interesting!!!

You gotta do what you have to do to get the job done.

Working with the tapered logs is pretty easy. For the horizontals I level the taper and measure from the underside to the sill and cut the posts. I plumb bob the verticals along their centers. I put strapping on the posts for the siding. I only have to chainsaw or hatchet the 3" spot where the strapping attaches to make sure the strapping is in the same vertical plane. Pretty easy once you start thinking that way.

Got the back rafters on. Hope to order the metal roofing next week.

Finished up the shed with siding milled from the property with the portable mill. Did metal roofing and put in lights and outlets. All set!

Looks right out of 1870, except for the contents.

I am concerned about insects ravaging your posts, as they are not debarked...:2cents:
Nice concept, great work and awsome rustic looks!!
You have fully utilized what nature had to offer you, and I quite respect this!:drink:
Well done.

Awesome project and definitely strong enough to handle some Vermont snowfall!
