Let me preface this by saying I am pretty much building stupid.

Here is what I want to build, a 12'x30' open shelter. Meaning just the roof,no enclosed walls. I want some type of shelter to park a travel trailer under when we are at our property and have some shade during the S. Tx sun when there. Posts will go in the ground, and a corrugated tin roof is the look I want. I have been searching Pole Barns here, lots of good info, just not sure that I am searching the right terms as the Pole barns I am finding are more than I need.
Also I dont want to buy a kit, I want to build this, but I want to do it right.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks

You might want to chat with Eddie Walker, a regular poster here. He is in the Tyler area and is a builder. I have lots of ideas and I'm sure other will post here as well. Still, I'd private message Eddie and have a chat.

Your shelter is indeed a pole barn, without the walls. The integrity for wind and such are the same, whether or not you put walls on it. In fact, I've seen wind get under those carports/shelters more frequently. Good to hear you want to build it right.

I built this one several years ago--20x28 ft, 9-10ft roof. Lumber and metal R-panel for sides and roof ordered through Home Depot and delivered to the jobsite for about $60 transportation cost. About $3500 in material total.

Simpson post bases embedded in 18"x18"x18" concrete footings. 4x6 posts (DF lumber painted with Behr solid color stain), doubled 2x12s to span 14 ft between the posts. 2x6 rafters. 2x4 purlins (on the roof) and girts (on the sides). 28ga R-panel metal siding and roofing screwed to the purlins and girts. It helps to have a nailgun handy (mine is a 6-in-1 gun from Harbor Freight run off a $90 pancake compressor also from HF).

Flusher thats a great looking barn! After seeing those pics I came to the realization I really need to keep my structure portable. My family has 2 sections of land, 1 that all of us use for camping, hunting etc and 1 we lease out. One day my brother will have 1 and I the other.
I priced out a carport style structure 18'x21'x8' at the eaves for a 1022.00 installed, really think I am going that route as its on its own frame and not mounted in the ground. All metal structure that I could take down if need be in the future.
Thanks for posting the pics, made me rethink what I was doing.
