I have encountered all of it on property I own or manage... from vines to bush and concentrations that cover a sold half acre in the middle of a pasture...

That said I'm very thankful for not having encountered it in and around Olympia... I've asked around and it doesn't seem to be an issue although I'm sure I will find it if it is there.

On the flip side, I have heard of people letting it go deliberately to keep strangers off their rural property.

I cleared out about an acre down by the creek... it was a formidable wall... the original owner said it kept the rif-raf out and maybe he was right... since I made my trails there are now folks that come wandering through the property where it was very seldom before.

I use 2,4-D in a hand sprayer for both poison oak and ivy. It works fairly well when it is smaller and growing fast. timing is everything unless you use something more specifically made for it. i imagine timing is till helpful though.

The newer RoundUp brand formulation called ProMax really does a good job on poison oak or poison ivy. Seems to work better than previous types did with a single application.

2-4D will kill your trees and any other broadleaf plant. Glyphosate (Roundup and other brand names of Glyphosate)will usually kill P.I. and not hurt the trees. I spray a combo of Glyphosate and 2-4D around my fence line to kill everything down. As long as I keep it low to the ground it doesn't seem to bother mature trees but it will kill small bushes, tree sprouts and almost everything else that gets on leaves of plants and grass.

I have never seen 2,4-D kill a tree or even hurt it unless it is no taller than the poison ivy.
