Looking for a good set of plows and a disc for my 6000. See lots of used stuff in pretty good condition, but is anybody making it new anymore or has no till taken over?
I have an IMC bush hog I believe at one time they made plows? Anyone know if they have a website?

What are your intended uses? Is being "transportable" a factor? What's available? Parts an issue now or in the future? Money "an object"?

There isn't for the most part, any "American" plows on the market (in your size range). You're looking at used. If you'd like to stick with the FORD theme, they sold some of the best plows made. Are you planning on doing much plowing, or just occasional work, or maybe a "plow day" type event? If so, being easy to load and unload from a trailer might be important. In its day, that 6000 would have handled 5X14"'s around here. Most of those were semi-mounted plows. They do good work but are a bear to trailer behind a tractor. Also, you have a tractor nearing 50. maybe a lighter load wouldn't hurt. If it were me, I'd go to 4X14" 3-point mounted plows. You SHOULD, with a little searching, be able to find that plow in a FORD 101 model. Best mounted plow ever IMHO.

Disc. That tractor would handle a 10', 12', maybe even 14' disc. Again, how important is it that the disc be "legal width" for hauling? If so, stay under 8'. Beyond that, good luck. There's still a few GOOD used disc's in that size range, or some pricey new ones. For performance, you want a pull type (wheel disc). Any 3 point disc is an automatic step down in performance. Again, JMHO. (I OWN a 3-point disc. Too handy)

IMC that I know of doesn't sell a plow.

FWJ, he has a Mahindra 6000 not a Ford 6000.

As for plows, Kverneland makes the best on the market and you can get as small as a 2 bottom from them. They also make disc but I have never seen one of theirs in the US. Redirecting page

Monroe-Tufline makes a nice disc and the smallest they had is 8' in transport configuration. They were around $4k for a 10' transport when I priced one a few years back. Agriculture Product Line - Monroe Tufline

That explains a lot......;) Stuck in "vintage" mode I suppose.

That Mahindra, how big of a tractor is that? (HP/weight)

I was thinking 2 or 3 bottom plow with 8 or 10 ft disc. I'm hoping to plant a pumpkin patch, some corn, turnover for a market garden, wildlife food plots, etc. I have a tiller, but it's rough on it doing ground that's been in pasture for a long time. I'm probably going to end up with a lift type disc not hydraulic due to getting into rough places for food plots.
The Mahindra is 59hp 4wd. Quite a heavy tractor would need heavy duty implements.
I just wondering if there are many new products available? Used is fine with me. No dealers locally sell new stuff like this. I've seen Land Pride at TSC, but nothing as big or heavy duty as I would need. I did not see a plow like I would want from Tuffline however the discs would fit the bill.

59 hp and 4wd, it'll handle 3X14" or even 3X16" plows without much trouble. I'll stick with my recomendation of the Ford model 101 plow. I pull a 10' disc with a 60 hp 2wd tractor in hilly country. If I was to pick one older brand/model, I'd say International Harvester model 370. About the best yyou could get in that size. Good used ones still exist. Deere (Pioneer brand) has a smaller disc too. Competitively priced as I recall.

Thanks I'll look at IH discs. Did they (IH) make a comparable plow to the Ford 101. I'm quite fond of old IH stuff. I moved some hay for the neighbor the other day and noticed an International Machine Company trip back plow. I think I'll inquire about it. The DW grandpa says to make sure I get a trip back plow. What's your opinion?

FWJ, if you don't mind me asking, what type of disk is your 10 footer,( tandem. offset?) what size blades, and how deep do they cut? How much does the disk weigh, and how much does your 60 hp tractor weigh?

Thanks for any info :)

Hi Farm: That Mahindra 6000 is 50 PTO HP. The 59 number is engine hp - seems that's what everyone is talking these days except us old timers. But I think he still should be good with your recommendations. Just mentioned it because the 60 hp you compared to I suspect is based on the 60 PTO HP of your green 2440.

BTW Great work and info on your plow project thread.

I don't have the 10'er any more, but it was an IH 370. I'm gradually selling off my "bigger" equipment. No longer need it. I've got an IH 350 in 8-1/2' and a 9' MF #25 (3 point) nowdays. They're "tandem" styles, all. About every disc I've ever owned had 18" blades. Depth all depended on what you're discing. Plowed ground they'll all cut to the hubs. Hard compacted pasture land, an inch or 2 sometimes.... No "in all cases" answer to that. Just guessing, but the 10' IH disc I had probably weighed in around 1500lbs, maybe 1800. Tractor (Deere 2440) weighted like I normally use it, hits the scale at 7800lb. (Would handle the disc with 1500 lbs less)
