John Deere 4120
Has anyone on here have experience moldboard plowing with their John Deere 3320 with Hydro. I realize that the type of ground will make a difference. What size do you use..one or two bottom? 12" 0r 16". Does the tractor seem to have enough power? How is the traction?

thats roughly the same size as my TC33.

I have a 2x16 dearborn plow i pull behind mine. 4wd with locked diff and R4, Its not an easy pull, but i getr done.

Plowing the garden - YouTube

Single bottom is much easyer to pull. a 12" would likely fair much better than my 2x16 as the 12" only goes 6" deep vs the 16" which goes 8"

I noticed on the You Tube video that you can easily see the results of the two bottom plow. When i plowed with our 49' 2n Ford as a kid and I followed my dad with his three bottom you could not tell the difference between the two plows. I'd say that the video plow is off set to far left. With proper adjustment the plow should roll over to the same height as the last pass. I'm not critizing just pointing out an observation and with proper alignment it will be easier to pull the plow. Plowing in my opinion is an art form.

idaho2: I think you are correct, but you're looking at the initial pass (tractor level) and the second pass (tractor in the furrow). The second/third blend together much nicer. I agree though - a properly set plow will not even leave distiguishable furrows. As you look acrosss the field it will all look the same.

Just did mine yesterday - Ferguson single bottom 16". I'll get pics up soon.

most likely yes, but setting up a bottom plow to roll over correctly from pass to pass is virtually impossible with wide R4 tires most CUT's come with today. If i had skinny R1's that actually fit in the furrow, then pass to pass roll over would line up better.

Just one of those things you ahve to accept when working with modern equipment that does much more than just pull a 2 bottom.

I have a 3520 hst with loaded R4 tires, and an old Ford 2 bottom, 12" plow. I have only used it to plow my home garden. The tractor handles the plow easily at the correct depth but I usually try to pull it as deep as I can to loosen my clay soil. At 10" to 12" deep, I run out of traction, but no problem with power.

Holy cow man! A 12" plow should be going 6" deep - maybe 8" at best!!

To answer the O.P.'s question, I plow with a little Kubota B2630. I have non-loaded R-4's, but leave my loader on. Your tractor is about 1,000 pounds heavier than mine - huge difference when plowing.

I pull a single bottom 16" extra deep Ferguson with ease. I don't have any clay, but I just plowed up thigh-high winter rye with a good root system and I didn't struggle at all. I'm plowing a good solid 10" deep. The plow is set up perfectly after a lot of little adjustments, so that really helps too.

The tractor handles it so well, I just bought a 2-14 Ford 101 that I thought I'd play around with. You should have no trouble pulling a 2-12 or 2-14.

I do understand the plow is designed for 6 to 8" depths, and the tractor handles that great even in my clay.
My garden has significant drainage issues, so I plow as deep as I can and also sub-soil it before final tilling.

That's a beautiful job you're doing with the Kubota and plow!

I should have mentioned that I also have a loader on my tractor, and my plow is a Ford 101.
