Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Plowin' snow with fel question.

I'm going to be plowin a small paved parking lot and short driveway plus a longer(about 100 yds)stone lane. I'm thinkin I'll be alright on the pavement but I'll be diggin up the stone with the fel. Maybe I should keep the old cub around.

I agree that a front mounted plow is best. Way better than the bucket because you can angle it.

I just finished up a project so I can use my rear blade on the front of the tractor. There is a thread "front mounting rear blade" close to the top in the "projects" forum which shows that and a couple other options to buying the dedicated front blade.

Question on the PVC for the cutting edge. Do you rip a slit the lenght of the PVC and make it tight over the cutting edge??

Thats what I was kinda thinking. I don't remember how it was attached or if it was pvc or iron , I was thinkin iron because pvc is brittle in the cold, I'm sure they split it but I thought maybe they welded brackets on it and bolted it to the side of the bucket. Thats why I think I'll buy a tooth bar first and make brackets fit the same holes.

1*It wasn't iron; that would still tear up the drive same as the bucket edge does.
2*I'd just slit a piece of inch or inch & a quarter plastic water or gas pipe and slide it over the lip of the bucket. I think it would grip the bucket better than PVC and isn't as brittle.
3*What they bolted was a strip of a rubber horse stall matt.
~~~~~~~~~~A piece of a pick up bed mat would also work.

Your getting the methods of attaching Matting and plastic confused with each other.

Lbrown59, You think just the spring tension of it being forced over the cutting edge would hold it on? Maybe it's that simple.

You really can't beat a blower. For years we plowed the yard with a rear blade and by January there wasn't anywhere left to pile the snow. Dad bought a rear mount blower in '76 and it was about the only thing going during the Blizzard of '77. Even with all that, we had no big snow banks and the melt off in the spring was nice and quick. (Ya just have to make sure it ain't pointin' at the living room windows when ya go by... Thank God it wasn't me that done that trick!! Mom was not happy.)

We wore that first snow blower out 20 years ago, but I still run its replacement every winter.
