What size plow would you think would be appropriate to mount on my loader on my new L4060? My old old 72"? SSQA plow ran off with my old L3200.

New machine is 40hp & probably sitting around 5,000lbs with loaded R4s, cab & loader.

I picked up a 84" old beatup truck plow this summer for $ 100 or so. Busted pump (oh darn where ever will I find hydraulics on a tractor), wallered out wing mounting holes. It's generally a bit worn & a bit rusty. Have a spare SSQA plate out in the barn still too.

Debating if I want to freeze out in the barn trying to clean up the plow & engineer up a SSQA mount. May or may not need to trim the plow down a bit, whick would probably trim off the wallered out holes. Or if I just am going to fork over a grand or 2 for one.

Any recommendations on size or brands if I end up getting one, or if I should trim mine if I build it.

You already have the 84" plow. Make use of it. Mine is an old 7 ft truck plow I use on the LS 36 HP. I was originally going to scrap the plow but I figured a few hundred to rehab was cheaper than a new one. You shouldn't have to trim the plow down. For mine I bought the HD 1/2" SSQA plate (5/16" would be fine), 2 used cylinders, hoses, pressure relief, and some scrap steel and paint. I think you saw my build thread. Pretty much the same set up as yours and weight about the same, mines about 5600.

You have all the makings of a FEL mounted snow plow why spend a bunch of money on new.Purchase new cylinders
and hoses/QD's.
Mine is a 8ft.(old Curtis truck plow) and is a good fit for my L4240.Mine floats the plow with a chain and I like this set-up.Others have made it rigid and float the FEL.Make as short as possible.

I am going through the same drill. I used a 7 1/2' Meyers on my L3430 and I set the L4060 up to use this blade, but I wanted to increase the plow size for it if I could. I found a Meyer's 8 1/2' blade that is in excellent condition for $450.00 so I went for it. The blade is quite heavy duty and came from a State of Maryland truck, but according to the Kubota dealer the tractor should handle it just fine.

I spent the last few days building a mount for the blade as it is quite a bit different than the "Classic" mount the old blade used. It is an Xpress mount which I was not familiar with at all. It uses a hydraulic cylinder to mount the blade to the truck/tractor which allowed the operator to mount the blade without leaving the cab. From what I found Meyer only built this unit for a short time and the mounts/wiring controls are NLA, so I converted it to tractor powered from the factory electric pump.

I do mount the blade directly on the tractor as I found that a loader mount made it too easy for the blade to "push" me around when I was stacking snow with the blade. I use the loader valve to angle and lift the blade and with the new set up I use the third function to lift the blade onto the tractor.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow as I just finished it up tonight. I was concerned about the weight of the blade, but the tractor seems to handle it without any problems.

I just welded a quick hitch to a SSQA plate for my last mount for the L3200. Welded a crosspiece that fit in the sockets of the plow & also fit in the hooks on the QH. Chain to the toplink area for float. It worked pretty good. It was light at times, a good & bad thing. Manual angle sucked, so hydraulics will be nice. I do plan on engineering up a much more compact mount this time so the blade isn't hanging so far out front. It pushed the front a bit occasionally & made turning with a load a bit harder, but all in all not to bad. Planning on making the new mount pretty beefy as while the last one heald up to pushing the machine up & out while stuck, it was a little light for the task. Gonna stick with a floating design I think.

Will get some photos of the plow when I pull it out of the weeds tomorow. Tapatalk doesnt want to embed photos, so here are links to the setup that ran off with my old L3200.

If anything I think 7' would be a bit on the small side.

Your cabbed tractor base weight is actually heavier by ~300# than my MX, but smaller tires. Plowing is about traction (weight) more than power. I just put a 7.5 meyers plow on mine. Waiting on a good snow to test it out, but dont anticipate any issues.

DO you have pallet forks? I took the forks off my pallet fork frame and used that to attach the plow. And made it so the forks can still go back on with no issue. Save the ~$120 it cost to but a blank SSQA plate.

I have a pallet fork frame & 1 fork (2nd fork was shiped slower apparently, lol). They are a little light & already have brackets for bale spears on there. I still have a spare SSQA plate sitting around. I got one for $80 and 2 more for another $100 a while back. Probably going to just use my last SSQA plate.Only 3" of snow due tonight, which is good as the high tomorow is suppose to be 6... Not gonna be out in my unheated shop with it that cold even if i need to build that plow mount.
