My little brown Cocker Spaniel - Brownie -has been "chipped". Mixed feeling about collars out here in the country. A neighbors dog got his collar caught in old barbed wire and the local coyotes ended his happy days.

I will not put a collar on a dog I own. Nuff said on this subject....
Get a collar with the breakaway clip. A heavy tug will unlatch it….

My Bailey has 3 different herding dogs in her ancestry. I can’t let her out of the fenced yard off leash since if there is a rabbit, squirrel, chipmunk or lizard she has to HERD THEM. No yelling will stop her. Twice she took off after one but fortunately was back at the house within an hour.

Beagles are great dogs, but they aren't happy unless they're running.
??? Beagle? Really?!?

Almost everything I ever learned about Beagles is from the Dukes of Hazzard. Are they not all like old Flash?

We find a stray in our yard maybe once every 5 years, always a fun adventure, at least when they're nice dogs. Usually un-marked.

I always have a bag of aluminum dog tags, which I use for marking wood piles with dates felled or split, so it's no big deal to pull out the old vibratory engraving pen and engrave one for each of our new dog collars. Name and phone number gets it done.

If you expect me to drive your damn dog to a vet to get a chip read, you're making some wrong assumptions about the amount of free time I want to devote to your pet. :ROFLMAO:

We have one or two every year. Lost. Or abandoned. A dog with some id is easy to fix. Phone number, or anything, even a name... doesn't have to be official, just give me something to work with to get the dog back home. We get dogs all the time with id and no id. With ID its a simple phone call. Without, I don't have a chip reader. That means I have to find you with flyer posts or social media. Just anything like a phone number and a collar would be helpful. But you got a lost dog, with no id, the dog can't tell me where home is.
AFIK, all animal shelters have chip readers they use for free to locate the owner.
To me its dumbfounding that people refuse to collar their dog or cat, yet they think nothing of spending money on getting them groomed frequently.

I do wish to express that I'm not saying you have to fully tag you dog with the animal control or anything. Just give me something I can work with locally. I know most of the local dogs. But I don't know all of them. :)
