A lesson learned long ago...

You can't change other people with your expectations.

And aren't you happy other people can't change you.
I would prefer to hear back on the outcome, It would make all the "help" threads instructional. But I certainly do not want the questions to go unasked because someone read that YOUR expectation was to include a follow up.

I absolutely agree - never hurts to ask though:)

Information should be two way street. Remember, any answer we give someone, with a problem, is usually a guess. We can't see the machine. A follow-up post is common courtesy and a thanks for the help.

It also confirms the solution to someone else with the same problem.

Maybe we are old fashioned hosspuller.

But I agree it is the OPs choice. And some times I bet the OP is be chased away from his own thread by advise givers bickering amongst themselves as to who is more correct.

Often I read a thread with interest and then wonder if and how the problem was fixed when there is no reply. A lost learning opportunity.

Particularly if it involves something where someone got injured
I can use all the reminding I can get.
We gain skills, hopefully safer operation and have a nice chat
