CharlieD, thanks for the reply, nice setup you got there, I saved a copy of that picture I liked it so much!!

I'm with you on buying new, I pretty much buy everything new and since I am very **** about maintenance, have everything I buy give me years and years of trouble free operation.

I hope to have our vehicles paid of very soon and then will save up to buy the trailer, transfer fuel tank, chains and binders, air bags for the truck etc....and finally will save for a down payment as long as I have the patience to wait (figuring at least 5k but I am poor in the patience department).

Did you operated the L39 or L48 for comparison before deciding on the 110? I guess I really should do that.

Anyway great looking set up you got and thinks for your time, Tom

Hey Man

Thank you for the appreciation on my set up... It works really well for me... I have a Northstar Pop up camper that gets on the rig during the summer... I do like my toys /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yes, I did test the 39, 48 and the 110 each several times... I have mentioned in the past the first two just seemed clunky and didn't operate very smooth. Plus, the 39 did not have the hydro tranny and felt small... and neither the 39 or the 48 fit me right.... I am a long legged 6' 2" and the 110 just felt and operated right.... the 110 competes for sales directly with the 39 & 48 ... and I was almost set on the smaller and lighter orange machine... but, it was obvious the "beef" was in the JD110... even if I could save $$ on the 39 ... the 110 still made the most sense.

Funny - you mentioned patience.... I almost stated the following in my first reply... "patience really helped me in the long run"

Oh - the trailer I got from Big Tex was the 12ET-20 which means 12K capacity (2 6k axles & both braked) and 20' feet long. The 10K capacity trailer would have been maxed out and really not quite strong enough in my opinion. I don't have the 5th or goose hitches - my after market Eckart under bumper hitch works just fine. Furthermore, I looked at shorter trailers to save the weight... but, the 20' is perfect and what all the dealers recommended. Not sure if you'll need the air bags on your 350 as you really don't put that much weight on the truck... it is mostly on the trailer.

But, with all that said... next truck will have the goose or 5th hitch.

Just a thought... keep an eye out for a used trailer... you could save some money there if you can find one that will work for you... a used trailer is not so bad... no engine to repair /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Haha yes the toys.....with the second child on the way responsibilities are poking their ugly head, shortly after the first one arrived (she's 17 months now) the snowmobile and dirt bike went to the highest bidder. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I wont part with all the tools or ATV though, plus got the wife talked into the tractor so I guess the toys dont really go away they just change forms.....Thanks for the heads up on the orange machines, I want to keep my options somewhat open BUT.....I am really drooling over the 110. They sure are proud of it but.....I guess they have a right to be. If you dont mind me asking, (I know you traveled to Texas for the purchase), how much did you get off MSRP ballpark? 15%ish or so? Did they offer a nice financing package for the balance? Maybe I'm not supposed to ask that here, if not someone please let me know. Thanks a bunch. Tom

I tried and ran several 110's. One thing that really turned me off was the wide open undercarraige,, Now, a supplier is making skid plates for the 110. At the time I tried them, nothing was available... They had some serious trans problems at the start which by now, I am sure is fixed. If you are running this 110 in the woods and areas that are being cleared, by all means, get the skid plates...

I bought my grapple from Addington. They are local to me (5 miles from the house) & very nice people. I bought the heavy duty 5ft grapple, I honestly can't remember if it was 2500 or 3500 dollars...

Their thumb is also top notch. I am currently trying to get JD to refund my money for their crappy grapple so I can get it cut off & an Addington installed. Addington's thumb is 100 dollars more than JD's, twice the quality & strength. He has had to fine tune the relief pressure on the thumb because it has overpowered the smaller backhoes hydraulics & bent the bucket arms.

I had to decide between liquid fill & foam myself. I ended up going with foam ($1000/4 tires) vs liquid "beet juice" ($500/4 tires) because I do not ever plan on wearing out the tires. Your results may vary. My last tractor (kioti 3054) I had for 10 years. I had many flats, many puncture holes, never wore out a tire. The foam doesn't care how many holes you put in the tire, it will not go flat. Adds about the same weight as Ca Cl, 750 lbs per tire/rear 150 lbs front.

I think if you are going to truly hire out to do odd jobs, you will need to get your CDL A. Just one or 2 implements & you will be overweight. Just loading the tires you will be overweight. Your proposed 60 gallon fuel tank will weigh in excess of 500 Lbs

LarryRB, I can see why the exposed undercarrige would worry you, I saw a picture and there looks to be alot of important stuff exposed there. I plan to add a skid plate. It seems alot (well I dont know about alot but...) of the options on the 110 are not from JD but other manuf. Is this common in tractors just like trucks and ATV's and such? Anyway, Thanks. Tom

dubba, 10-4 copy that, JD thumb bad....addington thumb good....I have saved there website, looks like nice stuff, I bet the shipping will kill me but I will see what can be worked out. Maybe they distibute out here already? Basically I dont mind and am planning on taking a big hit financially up front to equip the machine properly, just want lots and lots of happy trouble free no regret type of service from it in the future.

I think I like the idea of filling the tires (foam), no flats would be REAL nice, didnt realize the tires could last so long, good news. I know the transfer tank will add quite a bit of weight, I will be close to GVWR with truck and trailer, and probably over 10k on the trailer. Definately over with the tires filled. I really hoped to avoid it but the reality is setting in that I may need to go Class A. I dont mind taking the tests and paying the fees and such I just HATE asking someone to borrow thier Class A rig and set up appointment with the local DMV stiff's etc.....probably be better off in the end though.......Thanks again. Tom

Once you have your trailer registered for over 10000 lbs, you can use your rig for the driving test. It doesn't have to be loaded, They want it empty. You just have to register the trailer for at least 10001 lbs.

Ya I just heard that you can do that I hear some of the testers kinda frown on it but.......as others have said if they require you to have the Class A to drive it they better let you take the test in it.......Thanks dubba......
