Please help a 78 year old with a F2560 stuck!

   / Please help a 78 year old with a F2560 stuck! #11
OK guys, I need some help for my 78 year old father. He is in Virginia, I am in NY... normally I would trek down there and help but with this Corona issue both of our states are on lockdown, and of course he does not want any of his friends coming around to help. He has a Kubota F2560 front mount mower. It has died on him in a field about 3000' from his shop. some type of electrical issue, and he is not very adept at electrical issues.

My big question is... can he tow it back to his shop? I think its a hydraulic drive, but I can not find any hydro-disengage in the online manual I have. I believe its a 2WD version.

Can anyone help an old man stuck by himself

Thanks!

Since there's no manual on-line, and no one seems to have one at hand right now, I'd suggest calling a local Kubota dealer and asking them. That'll take 5 minutes. Good luck.

to tow a hydraulic powered mower, be sure to open the bypass valves on both pumps. otherwise undue pressure will be applied to motors, etc, that will likely result in damage.
refer to owners manual for details on the bypass valve. you don't want to mess up the hydraulics....
proper hydraulic oil changes involve bypass valves anyway, you should be aware of location, etc
& yes, agree w/flyerdan, once had a fuel solenoid shutoff go bad on almost new Kawi... best regards

This isn’t a zero turn with separate pumps and motors. It’s a sealed case like a tractor.

Call a local dealer and ask them about how to disengage hydrostat drive for towing back to shop... I am not finding owners manuals online unless I purchase one. There was a site that offered downloads for purchase, I don't know if it is covered in the operators manual or not, might be worth spending the ~$10-$20 to have one... Messicks (site sponsor) might also be able to answer question.

my bad...i'd recommend to OP to transport by trailer rather than tow if possible

I don't know about the F2560 but I do have an older F2000 also in the Kubota Lawn and Garden Forum there are a lot of knowledable folks with the F series.
Mine does have a high, neutral, and low selector it also has a foot clutch which disengages the engine from the pto and drive.
They have the usual safety and interlock switches, seat switch, clutch switch, then the engine operation is controlled by an operator presence module and a shutdown module.
To shut one of these down, when the key switch is turned off the shutdown module will activate the shutdown solenoid for a few seconds and the return to the run position.
This solenoid energizes to shutdown a bit different then many.
Some models also had a manual fuel shutdown cable it may have gotten pulled.
To tow it simple put the range lever in the mid position.

I found a F2890 manual online ( I don’t know how much different the 2890 is from the 2560 but the manual specifically warns not to tow due to transmission damage.

Certainly sounds like an operator presence switch, or PTO switch open. Hopefully you can get more info from your father, including if there are dash and/or instrument activity when the key is turned on.
I don't have an F series machine, but my ZD mowers are not towable, nor can they be made towable short of lifting the rear end and rolling on the front wheels.
