Please advise a newbie to the BL4690B BH

Hi all, being a newbie I was wondering if I should be concerned to a Hydraulic leak. Its about the size of a dollar bill found on the floor underneath the bottom of the boom. This is where several hoses bend and go up and inside of the boom itself. The inside of the boom seems wet but I can not tell where its from. The unit is still new and all I have done so far is practiced removing and installing about 4 times on the tractor. I have cleaned it off and it has reappeared several times. All of the fittings I can see appear dry. After checking the fluild level it was originally a little over full and now its a little under full. I was wondering if it is some kind of bleed off or is a legitimate leak. Something easy to fix myself or will I have to transport the unit back to the dealer. I appreciate any opinions and experience someone may have.

Hard to say without seeing where the leak actually is, but if it were mine, it would definitely get fixed.

My BL4690B BH does not have any leaks yet.

Unless something has snagged one of the hoes there is probably a loose fitting at the valve or cylinder end of a hose.

A quick inspection with the boom fully extended may help to see where the leak is coming from.

If your BH is still under warranty give your dealer a call. When mine had a problem the mechanic came out on his way home and fixed the problem.

Bird and Ron are right - the expected leakage is ZERO. It sounds like maybe an insufficient crimp on a hose, or a crack in a tube or fitting, or a cylinder leak. It should definitely be fixed - it will just get worse with time. Maybe the dealer can send someone to your place to fix it or to take the part off that needs attention. Good luck - that's a nice backhoe - after this leak is fixed it will probably be another 10 years before it needs anything else. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your hydraulic leak you are experiencing is not normal. However, I am confident the fix will be simple. Let your dealer take care of it for you.

Zapper,
I had a small leak on my backhoe when I first got it. It was simply a loose fitting. I tightened and it hasn't leaked a drop since. Have you checked all your fittings? Just a thought.

I park my Kubota and rototiller in my garage so I can see if there are any leaks (I also want to keep them warm and let them watch TV with me!)
Have the dealer fix it right away. I had a hydro leak when I first received my new tractor and in no time the dealer came out and in about 5 minuets -no more leaks!
If the leaks are due to your activity after the warranty or misuse, then you fix them, however, if it is in the warranty period you do not have to put up with leaks . You paid for no leaks-make sure you get no leaks!
