Not a mechanic. The one time using plasti gauge "in frame" was a 66 Ford Bronco engine. For main crank clearance. Did it one journal at a time, the gauge had no problem staying in place during the tightening up. Add or Remove shims as necessary, in this one case, everything was fine.
