My JD 1020 (diesel) has a leaky fuel tank.
Not sure where the leak is coming from. I'd have to pull the tank to find it.

Being that the problem part is just a TANK, my thought is that I'd be better off replacing it with a new plastic tank.
At least in the short term, I could get it up and running, then later go back and replace the stock tank if I choose to do so...

Problem is that I cannot find anyone who makes a drop-in replacement tank. I thought this would have been an easy find.
Seems like a common problem and someone would have come up with a "universal tank" or something.

Anyway...
Looking for suggestions -

Anyone know of such a product?
Can someone recommend an alternative - like a tank for a riding mower?
Any drawbacks to doing this?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

There is a plastic gas/diesel fuel tank repair kit. It sells at most auto stores. It is like JB Weld for tanks.

I stuck a piece of 1/2in rebar thru the bottom of my tn75 fuel tank. New cost was over $400. I decided to try plastic welding. I went to the scrap yard and got a piece of plastic out of a car fuel tank to use as filler. I took my pencil type soldering iron and turned the flat point up on edge and started going around the hole in the tank until the plastic started getting sticky melted. I then used the filler material and used the hot solder iron to push it into the plastic around the hole in the tank. The plastic welding process was a lot easier than I expected it to be and the fix held for 2 years until I sold the tractor. Far as i know, its still holding. The key to plastic welding is to use the same material for a filler as the object being welded, and not completely melt the piece that is being welded.

Plumber supplies also sell a abs plastic cement that will work on most plastics. Just be sure you get the cement and not one of the abs glues.
