Plastic repair on Kubota BX

You might check with guys who repair plastic auto bumpers. Some of them can be heat welded with a plastic welder. Some can be glued back together. Then there are some that I dunno if anybody could fix.

As 2 Many said I've found the welding just a matter of finding out what the plastic material is. Kubota in thier response to d1king said "just go out and buy another fender!!!" My response to Kubota is FU!!

Every replacement part on that BX2350 would call for refinancing your home. I like the tractor but Kubota's attitude has been bad as far as I'm concerned. I had a problem with the valve manifold leaking when the tractor was brand new.

My tractor was out of service for TWO MONTHS due to some improperly sized flares on some SS tubing.

My dealer (who was really great by the way) found out that Kubota knew that they had this "little" problem with the flaring on the tubing but had failed to tell the dealers. After the dealer discovered the problem it took 6 WEEKS to get tubing with the proper flare from Kubota. Now that's real customer service!!!!

Santacruzer, My thoughts exactly on buying something to help their bottom line, but then the alternator seized up. I was going to get one thru internet (ebay) then found out my stepson had gotten one from Kubota dealer at $240.00 trying to be helpful. He and tractor are 220 miles away, kind of slows me down. I'm going to try different epoxies on the underside of the fender to find out what will hold. Don

More likely than not, there will be a recycling code (the little triangle thing with a number in it) on the back of the panel. That will tell you what type of plastic it is. Then a plastic shop or ray66v could tell you the best way to fix it.

There is. IIRC it is an ABS/something mix. I had a post somewhere about my BX plastic fix*..may not have updated it but I ended up welding it from the backside with an el cheapo Harbor Freight plastic hot air welder using the ABS rods. Do it from the back cause it looks like crap, at least my plastic welds did

What I've used on motorcycle fairings (an ABS blend) is Devcon Plastic Welder available at Walmart. It's a two part epoxy with some kind of smelly solvent (acetone?) in it to soften the base plastic as the epoxy cures. Use some aluminum gutter flashing as a back-up plate.

Skyco, I'd like to hear more about plastic welding! Wife just bought one for my birthday. Have you welded other things with it? Any tips. Richard

ABS pipe cement is the best thing I've found, just be careful with it, it's black.
Reinforce the back side with fiberglass cloth covered in the ABS cement.
Let it dry overnight before using the part.

DO NOT USE PVC cement.

This repair will only work if you haven't used any other glue already.
