I have been thinking about lining the impeller housing of my new 54" snowblower with 1/8" Delrin (McMaster-Carr). I would use 10-32 SS countersunkhead screws with nylon locknuts. I want to use machine screws so that changing the liner out down the road due to wear will be easier. I have been running a 47" blower on my 445 for about 15 years. It has been an awesome setup but stones and gravel have really worn the inside of the impeller housing. I had to have a patch welded on it near the bottom 2 years ago due to a open slit that developed.

Anyone here have any experience doing this? Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Love this site and the wealth of info given out here!!!

This gave me an idea. I wonder how effective a coat of spray on RUST-OLEUM rubberized undercoating would be? I may give this a try myself.

i tried that last winter with my 64" Ber Vac blower. it worked for a while but ended up being more trouble than it was worth and I took it out.

A better solution is this. SNOWBLOWER IMPELLER KIT works like a charm even on the bigger 3pt. blowers.

scesnik, what problems did you encounter? The impeller kit is for performance increase. I am looking for something sacrificial to keep the housing from being worn. Even if I had to replace it each year it would be worth it to me if it saved the housing.

It just wore out rather quickly. Especilly where the countersunk screws were. Then, once it wore there it didn't take long for it to be useless. I think a piece of sheet metal spot welded in place would work better.

I would clean the area and spray with bedliner I use it for lots of things including blower chute works well and easy to touch up

I had a farmking 60" 3 point blower that i ran for about 8 very hard winters and i did get some compaction problems in the chute but this only happened if i shut off the pto or pressed in the 2 stage clutch all the way BEFORE i cleared all the snow from the impellers. If i let it blow itself out there was never an issue.

As to the wear and tear, i did have to repaint the interior of my chute every year, as the snow does a number to it. I really don't know how the plastic liner will work. I added plastic runners to my horse drawn sleigh a few years back, and they really do get scuffed up alot. I was amazed how rough they become after time.

I have a gravel drive and faced the same problem. I had a metal fabricating company roll a 3/32 inch iron ring (about 4 inches wide) to the right diameter and welded it inside the drum . Problem solved.

Thanks for the link. Nice to see a local doing something different. :)

I took different approach
Used a child's sled FLYING CARPET (Google)
to line chute with Held in with pop rivets and aluminum edge guards
secondary gain when it does plug much easier to clean
