Plastic based Marine Clearcoat,varnish, or sealant

The wife wants to plastic coat some things permanently, such as wildflowers etc, for the grandkids and I was wondering if any of you have had any experience with a particular clear drying, plastic, Marine clearcoat, varnish or sealant that might do the job. I say Marine type since I'm thinking that might be the best.

It must dry perfectly clear and seal in the flower etc. completely to prevent deterioration over time. She's thinking two coats, so it must be something that with a second coat will dry clear too.

Any thoughts or ideas are much appreciated.

Seems you may be thinking of epoxy two-part pour-on finish. Try a Google or Yahoo search on " epoxy two-part pour-on finish " and look at the hits. Some are listed as marine finishes. These are the type used on table tops, where articles are buried in the finish, but are one-time applications, to the best of my knowledge.

You might try going to a hobby store and get some of the finish they use for Lap Desks. We made one for our daughter about 6 years ago, it has pictures and ink and 2 flowers in it. They all still look exactly like they did the day we put them in there. it is a 2 part process that comes in 1 box. You coat everything with a protector and then with the clear "plastic" finish. But I think you have to have something hard, like the wood in the lapdesk so it will setup correctly.

I believe it is called decopauge or something like that.
Clear polyurethane sealer should be fine. I have been using Rustoleum crystal clear enamel (spray can) lately for clearcoating various things.
