Thought this was a good one of my wife planting the corn in the garden.

How wonderful it is to be young and able to stoop or squat down for planting without being confined to bed in traction for the next week.

I have an "old man's planter" made of a 4' section of 3/4" Sch 40 PVC pipe with a funnel taped into one end. I drop seeds in the funnel and down the tube. That way I don't have to bend over so much and suffer the consequences.:D I use this mostly on prepared hills for cucumbers, cantaloupes, watermelons, etc. I also have two other planters I really like for planting seeds in rows as shown below. I had to put a cover over the seed hopper on my Earthway to keep seeds from popping out since the drop wheel is not perfect.

I also have one of these from Wolfgarten.

They are about $37 and have a snap-on handle available for around $10 more. I just pushed the adapter up into a schedule 40 PVC section that holds it just fine. It's tight enough that I didn't have drill and bolt it in. This seeder comes with three seed plates and is extremely easy to use for the home gardener. The only downside is that you have to come back and pull dirt over your seeds. It has one seed plate that can be used for turnips, radishes, and other tiny seeds, but you will definitely need to do some thinning when the seeds germinate.

I've looked at the earthway planters, but at $100 I just didn't see how they are worth it (for us). Seems like it would take just as long to change plates, set it up, etc. than to just go do it by hand. My wife and I planted four 125' rows this weekend with various veggies and fruits in about an hour and half. I'd drop the seeds for the whole row while she followed behind covering them up. When I got the end of the row, I'd start back covering them up and we'd meet in the middle. It didn't take long at all.

Our garden is just 50'x125'. If it was larger, we'd probably look into a planter, but with it this small, we'll deal without it. .

Both our backs are sore today, though.

Hate to be vering off the initial topic. Have had an Earthway for the better part of 40 yrs, same one. Seed plates are very easy to change out and rarely have to make any changes to planting depth. There are a few things we have to plant by hand but for those crops I can plant with the seeder, way faster than by hand. No need to go back over the rows and cover the seeds, all done with one pass.

Your wife looks pretty young. Age may change your mind. I have started using a lot of gimmicks to keep me in the "game". $100 spread out over 100 yrs., that's only a dollar a year.

Your ground makes me jealous, looks to have enough sand to work nice. My soil is mostly clay and to wet or to dry.
