Many tool rentals have hydro seed machines. I rented one with about 100 ft spray reach

You did? That might be the answer. But I know nothing about them. Is it on a trailer or what?
What materials do yo use to make the goo stick to a near-vertical slopes??
Please tell us lots more about this.

And anyone else who knows about hydroseeding, I'd like to learn more. Partiuclarly about how to make it stick.

There are several YouTube videos on this. Lesco is one supplier that's all over the country. The seed sticks with a pulpy paper product that is dissolved in the tank to make a slurry. Seeds are added and away you go.

Hydro seeder rental-was trailer mounted.
the pulp mixture stuck to utility poles
OK, a rental hydro seeder is definitely on my to do list for next season. Can't wait to give it a try. Gotta be better than the slingshot.....although maybe a little more complex. I will say that so far the seeds sprout well after being sun-baked into a clay ball.

Does anyone else do a germination test when buying seed? I just use a wet paper towel folded over a few hundred seeds sand put it in a sandwich bag for two weeks.

All reputable seed companies will include a recent germ and purity test conducted by an independent seed lab with the seed purchase.

I would vote for some form of hydromulching also. If it's not too expensive. The highway dept uses this and the "green goo" will stick to a vertical surface. It's a shame that this can't be combined with a pressure washer.

I used a leaf blower with a seeding attachment to reseed after a fire. I used a native grass mix and California poppies. The soil was very loose with a lot of ash. I seeded in the fall but there had been some rain so the ground was somewhat sealed. We received a lot of rain after seeding. I am very pleased with the results. Poppies all over lots of grass.
