I was backed onto an extremely steep grade last week, using my backhoe to reach down the slope to retrieve a prized rock-wall rock that had rolled down. As I was hanging over the edge, wondering what my odds would be should my machine end-over, I started to wonder if there is a pitch limit for safe oil scavenging by the engine.

During this particular endeavor, my tractor was facing up on about a 30 degree incline while I flogged the backhoe, so it must be greater than that. Is this specified anywhere?

And yes, as soon as I started to pull on the rock, the front end came right up. I got it eventually and managed to climb out of there. My wife was watching from the deck and almost had a heart attack, poor woman.

I have no idea about oil supply to the engine at that angle but...
I got a real good laugh about that "poor woman".

I think the HST or GST oil pick up will go dry before the engine oil pick up. I am NOT sure about it, but it rings a bell for some reason.

I AM sure that my personal pucker factor is much lower than the stability limit of the Kubota. !

But yesterday I gave myself a good pucker. Was using the old Ford hoe to clean run off dirt from my little pond and had the hoe stabilizer in a back filled gully. About 3' of fill. When I brought up the 36" bucket with a 9 cu-ft heap of wet sand and brought it to the side to dump, the stabilizer started to sink. I got out three good "Whoa Now!'s" before the bucket dumped. Not sure, but the vinyl may still have that pucker in it...
