BTDT and have shot thru / out of a bag many, many times with both my 380's at the range for just this reason. I'd wager that my keltec and sig p230 have more bagged shots thru them then non bagged. in fact I can guaranteed my keltec does.. more like 95% of it's shots have been bagged shots.
1, don't use a tight slim 1/2 quart chip baggie... use at least 1qt. 2, don't use a double layer or freezer baggie. 3, don't actually buy a ziplock.. get a store brand.. I have used BOTH publix and walmart.. find the low mill, single press closure. they are thin and deform well. 4, as you surmised, you are not sticking your finger thru the hole you are tipping it.
i've yet to experience a slidelock / jamb due to bag resistance even on the larger sigp230. ( though upon cleaning the 230 once i DID find a shred of the bag under / at the rear of the slide.. gun still auto cycled the action fine. I was quite surprised to see it too.. as I didn't notice anything but a tear and burn hole in the bag. also.. on multi shot.. the keltec starts to run out of room as brass accumulates. after about 3 shots the bag is getting growded. I used to have a top eject 'cheapy' SNS gun i carried way back when, as a boot gun. it was more or less a single shot deal when bagged. it simply could never adequately eject and would stovepipe witht he plastic resting on the ejection port.. i got rid of it.. for many reasons.. not just that one..
lastly.. assuming a human perp.. you may not even need to fire it. fbi and nra specs show that mere presentation of a firearm overwhemingly ends the majority of confrontations. now.. hike that up to a dog or something and well.. even if it did jamb... fido ain't wearing body armor.. 1 shot should be enough... even if it DID jamb after wards.
If I had huge fingers.. IMHO.. I wouldn't own a super small palm/pocket pistol either. just saying. ( i have probably small hands for a man.. i do alot of typing and detail electronic work.. smallish fingers. not at all good for fighting

but they sure can pull a trigger..
I take a 30m walk every day. I'm in florida. I see lots of rain. ( humidity and sweat too ) It's been a standard practice of mine to bag my wallet and my carry gun when i go for a walk for years now.
cleaning a gun with oil is nice.. but not getting it wet is nicer. and as stated. regualar commercial ammo is not guaranteed water proof. short duration of lite rain not gonna be a problem. getting rained on 3-4x per week? I see ammo loss... besides. I don't want my gun getting wet from my sweat daily either. in the 30m that I walk.. corrosion damage could already be occuring. multiply that by 365 days... and well.. even a good gun oil and what not will eventually let SOMETHING in.
that's just what I need. a slide spring or some other very important piece to let go one day when i need the gun to cycle beacause I let the gun get rain and sweat drenched daily vs simply taking steps to pre-emtively care for it... i'm trying to avoid that..
I understand you said you had big fingers and couldn't comfortably figure out a reliable way to work yours without it causing an issue. I believe ya 100% not every soloution works for everybody. If all problems were solved the same way for everybody.. there would be no variety in life. only 1 brand of pants.. only 1 type of medicine for a particualr issue.. only 1 flavor soft drine.. etc..e tc. who wants that/

that said, I found a situation that works for me, that's i've practiced with and am pretty used to ( muscle memory ) and comfortable with.
on a semi-related topic:
Anyone here recal reading about a story about a guy that kept a glock in a 1g zipper style plastic bag in his shower in case an intruder breaks in while he's in the bathroom? I imagine that person just wanted a non coroded gun he doesn't have to fully take down every day of his life and clean and repalce the ammo, want it to stay dry, and be there when he needs it.. even if it is a tad inconvienient.
that's all I want mine for.
besides. i carry a walking staff and have a tac flashlight mounted to it. I forsee that being my go-to weapon of choice for a dog or small critter anyway. that or my pocket knife on my belt. every situation is different. armchairing ideas on what one might do changes drastically in real life. I've only ever had to unholster a gun for self defense , in a situation where I thought I was in iminent danger of personal injury a couple times in a couple decades.... in both situations, a small handgun sent a large ( very large in one case, with 2 other perps ) person fleeing as fast as they could run... and I'm glad about that. i consider myself a well armed pacifist... I practice with the guns I carry, and practice in the manner I carry including draw locations, using both hands as well. hope to never HAVE to put those exercises to real test.
it will but it would be a pain in the butt tryin to shove my finger along with the bag through the tiny trigger guard on the p3at. There is no clearance at all with that gun. i have big fingers. dont take to much offense man. i just hope you have tried to take a defensive stance with that gun in a bag. The bag would have to be loose and when you grab the gun quickly and try to stick your finger through the trigger guard im thinkin it will get hung up. Im gonna try this for the **** of it with my ruger lcp which has more room.
nvm. i just tried it and this is all kinds of wrong which i already knew. if you try to get your finger in there with the back, you can only get the tip of your finger on the trigger and when you try to pull the trigger, yu have to stretch the bag. Even if you do get a shot off, it looks as though you run a major risk of a jam because the shell wont be able to eject and the slide is restricted. Might want to rethink that baggy idea. Your better off just keepin the gun clean and oiled or keep it concealed to keep dust out. Just some friendly advise from a fellow shooter
