Kubota B21
Hi again,
My B-21 has a lot of wear in the pins and bushings of the backhoe and the loader. Can these be rebuilt?
Thanks again,
Ron

Ron - I suggest going online/dealer and ordering new pins and bushings.

Thanks for your reply.
It it difficult to replace them? Special tools needed?
Thanks,
Ron

The small Kubotas do not have bushings for the pins, just holes drilled in the metal. I have 1500+ hours on my BX and have no slop in the pins yet; what is causing this much wear (lack of lube)? You will probably have to drill out the hole and press in a standard bushing from an industrial supplier or buy larger pins to fix it.

I lube the pivots more often than the manual states and I use the expensive "high pressure" moly grease.
I have removable pallet forks on the bucket and use them to lift logs which does put additional stress on pins. Also, I sometimes run a 16 inch ripper on the backhoe bucket which adds stress.
If these are steel on steel then I wouldn't expect them to last very long even under normal use.
I'll contact the dealer and see what they say.
Thanks,
Ron

My understanding is that when you grease pivot pins on a hitch or such, the grease picks up sand and debris that makes a nice grinding compound for the pins and bushings. Since I heard this I keep mine dry. Not the grease able zerk pivots of course. YMMV

My use factor seems similar to yours. I used to move a lot of logs that were almost at the limit of the FEL and over rough ground and slopes. BH has moved a lot of large rocks and heavy soil to max depth. Strange!

That's just crazy & great way to wear your machine out quickly. There is a reason every tractor & hoe has grease zerks all over. Lubrication prevents wear.

Clean off the zerks & grease regularly. The fresh grease pushes old grease & contamination out of all the unsealed joints.

If joints are already so sloppy dirt just falls in things are so worn out from lack of lubrication it's already game over.

A good heavy equipment mechanic sees this daily. Depends on the machine, but I would think a B21 would have bushings too. Or could be over-bored and bushings pressed in.

A non-commercial loader like the 70 on my Deere has tiny little pins, with no real pin bores to speak of. The slop could only be fixed by retrofitting real pins and bushings into the loader frame.

This is a loader bushing on my B21. They all look pretty much the same. The loader pins are all 1", the backhoe pins are 25mm.
