My Snow weapon:
2oo5 Kub L28oo HST with 249 hours. It clears n maintains near 2,ooo+ feet of driveway
along with 4 small to medium size parking areas in the Poconos of PA.
Evolution of my "Snow Weapons"
a. In the early 60s my dad purchased a old John Deere farm tractor with a home made plow to clear-out 15o-2oo foot driveway. He was stationed in Hawaii for 15 years prior to retirement in 1958 and I think he just wanted to play in the snow.......
b. Few years later my parents moved again (my Dad was career navy, we mover lots) just a few miles away. Guess it was noting for my parents to move.
The new house had a 1,ooo' drive way and my father soon realizing he needed to trow the snow up n over the burn to keep the driveway open.
c. So he got a Gravely 2 wheeler with a snow blower that I operated as much as I could for him the next 3o years even after I moved out. It was a beast to use but it did a good job.
d. I purchased my own house fresh home from Nam in the winter of 71-72 10 miles from my parents n paid the neighbor to plow.
e. The neighbor retires from plowing suddenly and stops plowing. By that time my parents were older n moved next to me on a parcel of land I had purchased with a trailer on it next to my home. I tried my best to keep the now two 8oo foot driveway open with my dad's 2 wheel Gravely. Luckily it was opposite my parents old driveway and was flat but 1,6oo' blowing with a Gravely two wheeler was a big n slow job......
f. Than a friend informs me Gravely makes a 4 wheel tractor (stupid me, I did not know this) so I end up with two 8ooo series Gravelys, one with a plow n the other with a blower. They did great job and were fun to use. Also I mowed the lawns with the one.
g. My parers getting even older n needing more care I buy a 64' long by 26" wide modular house in November of 2oo1, convert it into a two family and we all move in Jan 26, 2oo2 BUT now I have an additional 4oo' feet to plow.
h. So that winter after finishing the house I am looking for a used back hoe I could pay cash for and on the way to look at an old junker, the wife riding along says "I rather you just buy a new one and not have any maintenance headaches". In a few hart beats I did a 180 at the next exit n turned around and when directly to the local Kub dealer. It was January, perhaps the best time to buy ground digging tools. The first one I looked at was 24 months same as cash. I made part of the deal that I only wanted my wife's name on the loan n title so we could build up her credit just to make this a muti purpose purchase n make the wife happy..... It was home in our driveway in a few days. And now some 8+ year later if has just south of 250 hours currently and below are a few fresh fotos from the last storm.
