I can see both sides; Volunteer locally, but in a mixed volunteer/fulltime dept.

It is getting tougher and tougher to get volunteers, especially with all the training we have to have now(at least in my area). If there is an issue with the folks they are bringing in, then go join them as firefighter or on Comittee/Board. Ya got young kids coming in because it is harder to get older more mature folks. Maybe they need to screen better, or try to get more older smarter folks. You only get out of it what you put in to it...

We would have hiked in to check out your burn and talk before cutting locks, or driving a heavy engine in muddy conditions(not good to call wrecker because 30,000lb engine is stuck to frame).

I see you side, with all the rain.

On the other side, like it or not, there was a ban in place. Those bans are not always for dry conditions. Sometime air quality, or other reasons set by the County or State that make no sense to any involved...

Curiously, why would you bring home that many pallets to burn? Aren't you worried about left over nails in tractor tires or livestock?

We have some pretty lax burn laws but I have a severe dislike of the local volunteer FD, not really the FD but they let slot of young dumb people have keys to the station.. We had a burn ban on then got a 6 inch rain. I have a spot I had lots of brush on piled up. This kid cut the lock off my gate and ran in with a fire truck to put out my fire. Said I was an idiot to burn during a ban. That's when I lost it. I was in 4 inches of water. I called the law made the FD pay for a new lock. I burn my whole place off each spring. Helps the soil reduces under brush and ticks.
I brought home 3 40 yard cans of pallets and stacked them and lit the center made a massive bonfire.
