Awesome collection! I'm a fan of all the old iron and enjoyed seeing those pictures.
Tom,
Here are some pics of some of my antique tractors.
This barn, in north central WV at Lost Creek, was torn down in 2016 having been there for roughly 100 years. It had a slate roof, ceramic tile silo and beam construction inside. Landmark for many, many decades. Nostalgic for many locals to whom it was a landmark and permanent fixture for their entire lives.
Such a shame to have it torn down. Why? Doesn't look like a development area.
It had been an active farming asset until about 15 years ago. The bachelor banker who owned it since the 1950's died and the people handling his estate felt it was too expensive to keep up. No one with the $ was willing to buy it. It was not a victim of development. As best as I could find out it was a victim of cost to maintain and lack of need for the farm any more.

I agree 100%. "Need" in that context was strictly an economic viability statement. I live among people who have no clue where most food comes from and only a vague idea of what is done on a farm. Small farms in WV have little or no chance of making money on their own. Most survive as second jobs or hobbies for the owners. The day will come when people have to scrounge for every square foot of soil to try and provide food for the overcrowded country. Frown for sure !
