Looks like your brother had the rough job
They make an "aerator seeder" for an ATV or a riding mower...I have one of them & they really do a great job....I also have one for my tractor.
I like the one for my ATV because i can take it up in the mountains to seed my food-plot, because i can't get my tractor up the very steep mountains.... and i wouldn't want to try it.
On the one for my ATV, it has transport wheels that let down so you can take it down the blacktop if needed.
*Something you might want to plant a row of in you food-plot in "turnips".....The deer really love them, and they stay through the winter... When the frost hits the "turnips" it makes them sweet to the deer.... and turnip seed is very low cost, and the seed is small & goes along way... You could put a row on the outside of whatever else you plant...I plant them in different locations for the deer.
The turnips like cool weather, and last year in late August we planted a row in our garden for us to eat...That was a mistake, because the deer started jumping our chain-link fence to get the turnips.... and the deer stayed in our garden all winter digging for the turnips.
The ones in our garden lasted from late August of last year..to spring of this year until i pulled what was left up
.....and the ones that was left had new growth coming on them this year.... With our garden this year the deer are still jumping the fence looking for the turnips.
Once in a bass-pro shop store i picked up a bag of food-plot seed, and read the different kinds of seed in the bag... When i come home i looked up some of the names on the web, and some of it is turnips...BUT..they just put another name for it, and it's not like the turnips that you would put in a garden to eat.
*I just thought i would mention the turnips for you to try.
