Wish my Vicon had hydraulic open/close. The handle method is fine on an open tractor like I used to use, but on a cabbed tractor you have to turn off the pto, hop out of the cab, pull the lever to open the holes, jump into the cab while the fertilizer/chemical/salt is pouring out into the wigwagger (made worse by the tractor vibration), turn on the pto, and then take off after you get a big blast of "stuff" where you start off. Cheap/no biggie with salt on a driveway but nasty with chemicals or fertilizer in a field. You'd think a guy could pull the lever with the rear window open but you can't close the window with the spreader raised to operating height. Befco mileage may vary- I haven't seen their Vicon clones yet.

You can buy the hydraulic kit to replace the handle on the Vicon spreaders. I don't know what it cost but like most things Vicon it is probably a few dollars.

I can imagine the cost. The handle application adjustment on mine butts up on plastic. Using that for hydraulic adjustment would require a very gentle touch. :(

Go to http://kverneland.papirfly.no/newsread/ReadImage.aspx?quality=10&docid=1922

It is the brochure for the Vicon spreaders (thanks to the Vicon website), the cover photo shows the Vicon spreader spreading but it has a hydraulic cylinder on that spreader (it is Vicon red above the metering rod), if you look down to the first page (second if you count the cover page), that is a side picture of the same spreader and shows the cylinder a little better. It should have a relief system built in somewhere (maybe that is the bulge on the cylinder) but it hooks directly to the adjustment rod.

I wonder how new that hydraulic remote opener is? I was at a farm show a few years ago (3-5) at a Vicon display and none of them had it. None of the fellows mentioned it as an option, either, and I mentioned my trouble with starting off in a cabbed tractor, too.

I use to go to Alabama once every couple of weeks and made it to Oakfield a few times. I always loved it up there (well, till winter set in).

If you are interested, we are having a TBN gathering of WNY members up in Batavia this spring. You can learn more about it here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/northeast/51074-western-new-york-chapter.html

It is always great to meet more locals:)

Batavia, thats where my wife is from. Is it something in the water that makes all of the women in that area have a nasty disposition or do they?

No, not all the women have nasty dispostions. We cull the bad ones out and send them to North Carolina:D

Feel like bringing her up for a family reunion? Drop her off and come to lunch with us:)

The sad thing is I believe this to be 100% true and accurate from what I've seen out of the "illegal immigrants" I've met thus far from that area. Sounds like a plan to me and thanks for the invite. It'll have to be at a time when a snowmobile isn't needed though ;) .

I think we are planning for the end of March so the snow should be gone by then. If you are interested just keep an eye on the thread I posted for robbieo11:)
