Picked up a new tool box today

Nice looking set. I was in Sears Monday night looking at new boxes, the decent ones that fit my needs were out of my budget. Tuesday I stopped at a Industrial Storage Supply outlet, came home with a Waterloo 27" 8 draw base cabinet for $250. This morning wife told me about Sears ad on TV today with sale on toolboxes. I was starting to feel some buyer's remorse until I checked online. That same box I got is onsale at Sears but is still $599.

Nice, nothing wrong with that.

Guess the sales clerk was telling me the truth about the 2 day sale, it's back up with sale price now at $1280.00. I'm sure it'll go down again though.

That's a nice set. With the wide range of drawer sizes, that will hold a bunch of stuff compactly. I don't think you will wear it out.

I have one of these Gladiator base units. $399 now on-sale is not a bad price if they are built as well as they were six years ago.

One like these is sitting on top of the Gladiator. That one was a Christmas present from my FIL back in 1971. I think it is made quite a bit better than the new ones. :) Plus it has an organizer layout and tote tray in the top under the lid.

Nice! I haven't bought a toolbox in a while (need to, thanks for reminder) but remember the Sears prices fluctuating up and down a lot. Last one I bought was in 2002 or so, and I watched prices for a while before jumping in around Christmas time. That seemed to be the best price I'd seen in a while.

For liners, I had bought a pack of whatever Sears sells, but later realized they were on the pricy side, and there are many bulk roll materials that would work just as well. For the toolbox I keep in my truck, I cut a piece of scrap floor-runner mat I had got at Lowes. It's black plastic, comes 36" wide, is about 1/16" thick, and has thin fine ribs (which make it easy to cut as the ribs are like guides). You can buy it by the foot. Use rib side up or down, whatever makes sense. I think for some toolbox applications, the thin outdoor carpet felt (about 1/8" thick) might be good too. Could even use thin neoprene roll sheet if available, or really any soft material that has the characteristics you need.

Anyway, I have a mental note to avoid buying "specific" drawer liners unless they are really really inexpensive, since the bulk material works out to a lot less $$.

I'm going to shop around and see what I can come up with for quality liners.

I use the stuff S219 uses. You should be able to find it in the kitchen supplies area, it's used for lining drawers and shelves. It's pretty tough stuff and reasonably oil-resistant.

Bought the same box a few years ago at the $700 price. Got the cut to size craftsman wrench holders (plastic channel with foam holder part), and a few rolls of the HF drawer liner material. The HF stuff worked well. I think I used 3 rolls for the whole box.

I picked up 3 rolls of Craftsman drawer liner today, regularly $24.99, on sale for 14.99 a roll.
